We all hopeless when it comes to planning. I’m on vacation next week with no plans. The only significant US wine region that we haven’t visited is Washington, so we are thinking about heading over. I’m inept when it comes to searching this forum. We would be interested traveling to the best AVAs and tasting exceptional wines. We are not focused on tasting room experiences or hype. Well crafted, age-worthy reds are our focus. Can you help us out?
Earlier this year I took a group of eight friends to Walla Walla and we had a great time. We rented a VRBO that was big enough for all of us that was near the campus. There were enough good places to eat in town to keep meals interesting.
This was our itinerary, reservations were made in advance for each of the wineries:
Thursday
Drive to Walla Walla from PDX 3 hrs 40 min
Multnomah Falls, 30 minutes from PDX
Lunch @ Burnt Field Brewing:in Boardman, 2.5 hour drive from PDX
Woodward Canyon Winery
L’Ecole No. 41
Friday
Syzygy
Adamant Cellars
Devium Wine
Saturday
Rasa Vineyards
Spring Valley Vineyard
Sunday
Pepper Bridge Winery
Revelry Vintners
Grosgrain
Monday
The Walls
Valdemar Estates
Rotie Cellars
Tuesday

Gramercy Cellars
Time and Direction
Wednesday
Va Piano Vineyards

Sleight of Hand Cellars

Fly out of PDX on the redeye
My favorites were Abeja, Sleight of Hand, Devium and Saviah.
Hope this helps.
As a parent and a former people manager I have learned to not reward learned helplessness.
What Washington wineries are making more old school restrained, Bordeaux styled wines these days? I haven’t been drinking wine from WA in a very long time but used to really enjoy Betz. Will be in Seattle for a few days in September and want to spend one day out in wine country.
The OP is hopeless not helpless.
Thank you very much.
Thank you for weighing in. Much appreciated.
Have a look at Red Mountain, nearby. Col Solare, Hedges, Cooper come to mind…
In Walla Walla, a new find for me was Pursued by Bear, by Kyle MacLachlan. Winemaker from Abeja already mentioned does the wine. Enjoyed the visit to the tasting room, nice wines.
Cadence, in South Seattle. Age worthy, Bdx blend, focused…
Thanks all. Will look into the above.
Roger thanks my friend! Come back soon!
