I'm serving both the 2007 and 2008 Jean Foillard Morgon Cote du Py tonight....Would an hour in the

decanter be about right?

Thank you in advance and HT to all.

Kim,

I’d be inclined to let the '07 evolve in the glass, but I doubt an hour will hurt it at this stage. I’d taste it after 30 minutes and see if it’s already popping.

The '08 Cote du Py is a little tough right now so that’s not a bad idea at all. The Corcelette seems to be a bit more generous out of the blocks, as Gilman would say.

Slaton,
Welcome aboard!
Kim,
Welcome back!

+1 on the '07. Don’t know about the '08.

The 07 will definitely soften with an hour in the decanter, but the 08 is super tight right now. The last 08 Foillard I opened recently smelled great but refused to budge despite decanting for several hours. I am letting them sleep for a few more months and might revisit them later.

Michel - You were spot on and I’m glad I went out and nabbed a couple of 07’s at the last minute. The 08 did not want to give it up on the palate -although the aromatics were terrific.

Happy to have found this producer and to have started an exploration of Cru Beaujolais. I can see using these wines in instances where I might consider inexpensive pinot (which almost always disappoints).

Can’t wait to see how the 08 is with a little time on it - fun to cellar some inexpensive stuff!

Thanks, Paul!
