I'm in one of those ruts....

…this isn’t good. Pulled…

2007 La Lecciaia Brunello from the cellar, corked. Then…

2010 Cepparello. Lean, tart. I have faith, but thus bummed me.

Pulled a 2004 Illitraia. So oaky (Still!) that it doesn’t even taste good to me. Makes me want to get something else.

I hate slumps.

Sooooo, open a magnum?

Drink something older and more mature!

I suggest purple drank.

I’m not even going to ask you WHY on Earth you thought to open this now and how that was ever a good idea. [scratch.gif]

Sometimes I’ve found it’s me and not the wine…

2010 Cepparello? Really? The only reason to open this now is that you were tied up and it was the only bottle you could reach. The answer to all ruts is Piedmont.

+1. I poured 2 bottles and opened a third before my wife tasted it and told me I was an idiot.

Go with beer or cider for a couple days. Reset your mind!

I would also echo the above comments, drink something else (besides Italian). Maybe a California Cab, a white burgundy, or even a dry Alsatian Riesling with some cuisine to match.

Have you eaten anything recently that contained Asian pine nuts? They can cause a condition called “pine mouth”.
It causes any wine to taste horrible for a period of several days to a month.

First of all, thanks for the comments. I think I must hit the new world and was thinking of that. I didn’t have pine nuts, but did make an asian stir fry.

On the 2010 Cepparello, I wanted to try one very young. I typically do his with wines I buy to cellar. The 2009 Cepparello shows great at Slow Wine last January and were barely a month ahead of that.

It’ll be CA Cab or Spaten tonight!

Yes, I could go Dolcetto!

I have been in a bit of a funk these last two weeks as well, striking out on about 8 of 10 bottles. Some corked, some just bad winemaking (Usseglio 07), later I had a slight cold, etc. drinking beer tonight. Shoulda done that instead a few days ago but I’m a slow learner!
