All along I’ve thought of that thread, too.
This is a fun read. Great work, Paul.

The vinous equivalent of supersize me!
Bravo Paul and thanks for taking us along on the ride. Very fun read.
Yes, thanks for doing this. It was enjoyable to read and follow your progress. My initial reaction was that I would never want to buy something like this – and you have provided empirical data to confirm my assumption.
Thanks again – and a peaceful and restful holiday to you.
Well done Paul! Good fun indeed.
Really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for purchasing this and as said taking one for the team. I laugh as a local wine educator in Minneapolis used to rave about wines from Aldi’s.
I was going to suggest trying a wine Advent calendar, which I am doing, and then I saw this thread!
Mine is not by Aldi or anything similar, it’s by a small French outfit called le Domaine du Goût and the 24 tiny bottles are all organic wines.
The wines are really quite good and the fun is the blind tasting: the bottles only have numbers so you try them blind, then find out what you tasted.
So far so bad - I did correctly identify a couple, but I was miles away with the others. I will definitely do this again next year.
This year I am doing a coffee calendar from Onyx https://onyxcoffeelab.com/products/2021-coffee-advent-calendar
Very high-quality coffees.
Quite fun to read! There is an amazing Facebook Group called Aldi Aisle of Shame that is a huge community (mostly women) who share the funniest accounts of odd purchases at Aldi’s along with tons of genuinely kind things people do for others at Aldi’s … I had no idea it was such a community but I no longer laugh at them.
There is a coffee advent calendar a friend is doing called Yawn that’s found on Etsy - still for sale - and it is quite interesting. Meanwhile, a lot of the big beauty brands did Advent calendars this year and Chanel is catching massive flack for theirs. it costs $895 and a tiktoker had been opening them and showing off the garbage they put into it - one day was a small sheet of stickers, another a tiny kids flip book, another a little dust bag like they normally place their hand lotion in … it’s causing the most wonderful uproar. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/06/style/chanel-tiktok-advent-calendar-controversy.html
I just watched the tiktoker opening her Chanel advent calendar. Hilarious!
My sister-in-law bought ALDI advent calendars for our dog and cat. Our cat wouldn’t touch any of the treats. Our dog eats anything. The dog and cat treats were the exact same treats, just different shapes. (So the dog now has 2 advent calendars)
This one’s a favorite Chez Stewart
The Chanel thing is quite amazing… a beauty youtuber I like is opening several calendars each day and it’s quite fun but she happily did not go for Chanel!
Doing the work for the rest of us! Very interesting to see the TNs on these…
I think when I was in college, or at least my first banquet job, we called it “blush”.
