I was lucky to get to try the 89 and 90 Hommage together last night. Both are wonderful wines but the ’90 is a bit less structured than the ’89. Both can be drunk now or cellared for many more years. I also had some ’90 regular Beau left from a previous flight and while I loved it when tasted in a previous flight, it came across as light especially in the mid-palate when compared to the two Hommage. Funny how a wine tastes in different settings.
With a line-up of the above and 90 and 98 Pegau Laurence, 97 Pegau Justine, 90 Bonneau Cuvee Speciale, ’00 Bonneau Celestin, the Hommage were clearly WOTN with the ’89 being just exceptional.
The Celestin was drinking very well. I’m not sure it will get any better but will certainly hold. The 90 Speciale is a monster and changed a lot in the little time I had with it. The one regret was that I didn’t have a few hours to just spend time with that one. Someone opened a 96 DP Oeno at the end of the night and I got distracted.
How was the Justine?
I’ve always been curious if it was a special barrel or if she just bottled it for her daughter’s Birth year.
Also being 97’, how did it hold up?
Justine was for her daughter’s birth year, and it was a total of 100 cases made. One Foudre, and 2 Barriques.
It was really, really good. Didn’t show the vintage that much. If you have it, drink it up. It’s all out now.
The 90 Speciale had a bit too much VA for me. I’m pretty sensitive to that unfortunately
The 2000 was really good, well balanced.
The 90 Laurence was also excellent, and in another 10 years, the 98 Laurence will be amazing.
