New to me, but a classic for Livingstone-Learmonth. And now I understand why he likes these wines as much as he does, this was certainly a great example of the cépage.
2012 Domaine Laurent Habrard Hermitage- France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage (12/22/2014)
Extremely clean, very fresh and floral. Acacia, honey and hazelnuts. Cardamon emerges with air. The wine evolves a salty caramel character.
On the palate there is a typical oily / gras framed by a firm acidity and lightly tannic rigidity. A smokey, dry tourbe (peat) lingers on the finish.
Harmonious, a wine of multiple characters and a classic example of marsanne.
Thanks. Good to know. I love white rhones. I bought a couple last week and was gonna crack one in the spring and see if I like the producer. Do you feel like it has the stuffing to get out of the dumb phase in 10-15 years?
The wine was unusually open and expressive for such a young Marsanne. It isn’t an enormous wine but it is incredibly well balanced. It has a good dose of glycerine but it isn’t an incredibly ripe year, I’d gander it will make fine drinking in 10 years but might be running on fumes in 15.
Producer style is my cup of tea. So clean, oak use is so unobtrusive.
Lausanne is a great city but, from what I’ve seen, Basel is no slouch! There are certainly lots of nice places to call home round these parts.
