The '03 Clos les Lunelles was inserted in a flight of five of the '05 BDX as a ringer. Was guessed to be the '05 Pavie-Mac and was really showing well at this stage. All of the top tier vs. QPR '05 BDX were still pretty tight and unforgiving. They are monsters indeed and will need to take a long slumber to come around. My favorites were the Pape Clement, Clos St. Martin, Clos Fourtet and for QPR, the Fombrauge.
Yeah, what a difference a year can make with the Clos Fourtet. Maybe the bottle we had was off and not indicative of the quality of wine they are putting out.
The La Tour Carnet is a pretty good bargain at sub $40.
Very poor showing. Unless the wines were incorrectly placed in decanters during the blinding, it stood way out. Very light in color for the vintage and it was cloudy. Not anywhere near the quality of the other '05s on the table that night, and nowhere near the expectations after Collins blurted out that he brought it.
Doubt that. The wine “revealed” to be Pavie-Mac was most definitely cloudy and everyone commented on that very fact. Looking back, I have my doubts that it was labeled correctly. A 2005 top end BDX shouldn’t have the color of a 20 year old Burg.
I have several dbl mags of the 05 Clos Fourtet Bill. I guess I’ll bring one to the Flannery without teeth fest to be scheduled in 2038. [1974_eating_popcorn.gif]
