I need to buy more Joseph Drouhin

And then only if you bought early pre-arrival offers. By the time they hit the shelves in the US the upper level grand crus were 3x the 2004 prices.

Peter, you usually seem like a reasonable guy but this I just cannot fathom. As long as the wines taste great, and the winemaker is not obviously a Dr. Evil who enslaves his growers, or uses evil chemical additives, or sells exclusively to rappers, then… who cares? There is nobody hurting for cash in Burgundy these days, neither growers nor buyers.

Nick…I was trying to have some fun ( with Tom - please note my remarks re Drouhin’s Montrachet - which officially is a negoc wine ).

My comments re …** I prefer to buy wines from producers who own and farm the land ***…should apply to small growers and producers - for example, land-owners in S-L-Beaune, P-Verg, Marsannay and Mercurey…etc…etc…

Honestly, I do not know by heart which wines from Drouhin are demaine ( and which are negoc ). [cheers.gif]

Please remember our friend Ray who needs our support.

Hmmmm…Alex.

Tough question to answer. I have no chance ( or luck ) to buy a Cros Parantoux from any vintage year. Same for Leroy wines prior to 1988. There was an importer of Domaine Leroy wines for vintage 1994 to 1996 to Quebec, Canada and then it was closed.

Please remember I live in Quebec, Canada where Government has control for importation of wines. [swoon.gif] [wink.gif]

I am willing to learn as I am passionate about Burgundy wines. May I have a hint of the following ? : *****Though some of the negociant bottlings are top notch *****

Great info Ken… I will have to keep my eyes out for the Cote de Beaune bottling. The 2005 Clos de Vougeot I had recently was also outstanding and open for drinking.

The Mouches used to go into the Beaune 1er cru, a lovely wine that I haven’t seen for a while.

I am going to open the '09 Cote de Beaune (easily differentiated from the BV by the different label with traditional lettering) tonight. I will report back.

Peter,
Jasper Morris’ Inside Burgundy lists domaine holdings only, and on p. 312 you’ll see a very long list of wines owned and farmed etc. by Drouhin. Pre-arrange a visit next time you’re in Burgundy - they will give you a great tour, and discuss the differences between their Maison and Domaine operations. Sadly their website does not make this clear.
Nigel

This is not exactly the top to the food/wine pyramid, but I greatly enjoyed one of these in the '09 vintage a couple of nights ago. Super deal at less than $20 per.

I actually don’t mind folks buying exclusively from domaines. There is a level of romanticism to the domaine system and how complete it is. Of course I admire those with their own vines.

Every Domaine bottle has “RECOLTE DU DOMAINE” or “PROPRIETES DE LA FAMILLE DROUHIN” on the label below “Joseph Drouhin” and above the AOC. If worse comes to worst you can always google the wine’s name and search for an image to see the label: click.

Nigel…thanks. I own Morris and will do some reading…

Ray…thanks for your message.

People buy wines for many reasons. Wish I have a chance to buy yours but living in Canada it is not easy…

Of course I admire those with their own vines.

With you devotion…it will not be long. [thumbs-up.gif]
