Hello guys,
I was wondering if anyone knows more or less if the picking is looking to be held at mid September this year or if climate has made some things change?
I also read that there was a strong Hailstorm a little while ago, will this have an impact on picking dates?
Cheers,
I hadn’t heard much about how it was going this year. A post from Maison Harbour a while back said it might be an early year again, but I didnt know if the weather turned.
We are look at about the 16th of September at this point. In the start of the year the warm weather and brilliant sun allowed the vines to come back to life quickly. This advanced the projected harvest date to early September (some were even saying, possibly jokingly, end of August). The vines were and still are, excluding the hail damage in some villages, healthy.
As the beautiful weather continued and the sun bullied all the clouds out of the sky, the vines started to get thirsty. I believe we went 4 months with almost no rain. This really slowed the development of the vines. In the start of June, some vines were still too small to to lift and fix.
Now July has brought us much needed rain and things are all balancing out. Based on all this and all the chat we hear around town, we think it will be a fairly standard year in terms of harvest time, mid September harvest.
