Thanks.
Bump. Anybody? I’d like to know too 'cause it’s the spouse’s birth year.
When I drank some in the late 50s/early 60s, they were pretty good, but not great. I would guess that provenance is extremely important at this point in time.
If memory serves, it was the best of the '50s before '59 came along.
Good to know, Dick… thanks for the response.
My experience with the vintage is similar to Dick’s - although I’ve only had them over the past decade or so - in that they’re good but not profound. Both the '52’s and '59’s are both generally better.
I should also mention that I don’t have a huge breadth of experience with either the '52’s or '53’s (they don’t seem to exist in variety or quantity) having only had less than a couple of dozen producers and bottlings from each year. The '53 Leroy La Romanee which was a re-release I’ve had a number of times and also falls into the good not profound category. My favorite '53 for a relatively reasonable price has been Louis Latour’s Corton Grancey.
