A fair comment.
If with wine nerds, it’s likely the group can come up with something interesting & flexible, even on the most obscure list.
If the fellow diners aren’t wine nerds, then whilst they may thrust the wine list our way to make a choice, doing anything more than a *cursory check online would rightly elicit comments about being a wine bore. Ditto spending 15+ minutes reading the wine list.
- e.g. identifying a candidate wine ourselves, but looking it up on CT to do a quick sanity check would seem reasonable.
