how much did you travel when first starting up?

When first starting up a winery I’m sure not all the sales were being done by email mailers and great reviews on wineboards, so how much did you travel as a winemaker/winery owner to sell your wines?

Was there a thought process on where you did travel and where you didn’t? Apart from meeting restaurants/distributors/stores for sales, did you go out of your way to try and host wine dinners to the general public? collaborate with restaurants across the state/US to have winemaker dinners?

25k a year on the Honda. We mainly market into regions where we have family and friends.

Our travel/marketing/meals budget has been pretty consistant at around $15,000, or about 10% of overall expenses per year. We usually do 3-4 non local trips per year.

We travel to S. Cal twice a year and hit up LA and Orange county pretty hard, as Kimberly and my folks live in La Canada/ La Crescenta. There is so much down there, you can never do it all. We are still attempting to sell all our wine without a distributor. I know, I know, but I’ll do it as long as I can.

Good thing WineBerserkers was able to help you sell 9 cases or so of wine, huh?
