This whole area is going to get a nice upgrade soon.
For me, if I find that someone has written a thoughtful note I often click on their handle and take a broader look at their notes. If I like what I see then I tend to add them to my favorites.
I do what Eric does. I just added two guys, one runs a wine shop in New England and one is a wine consultant of some type. Thoughtful notes on wines I was checking out.
Funny thing, I haven’t added Eric, Richard Jennings or Kdawg as they seem to pop up often enough
One of the features I like best is having the Recent TN’s on wines in common with my cellar showing up on the home screen each time I log on. I watch for someone to either write an informative note on one of my wines, or someone that has similar tastes to me and then I read some of their other stuff and add them if they are consistent. I like seeing my favorites bolded out on that home screen so I can see what my favorite tasters are thinking of wines I may be sitting on.
I’ll also sometimes look and see who has favorited me and see if they have similar palate or TN info and reciprocal add them.
i always just base things on how I feel their palate lines up with mine (or if they’re friends). There’s also some other posters that I pay attention to if I come across a note of theirs
I RSS feed that to my reader. My collection is small and eclectic, but it constantly amazes me to wake up in the morning and see 12 new notes on my phone.
Thank you, Carrie… do you see what I have to put up with from my `friends’???
I have selected lots of buddies based upon the TNs that pop up on the Home page, folks who seem to follow the same wines I do and seem to have similar palates. It’s interesting to get their take on things. I’m really looking forward to the new feature in CT that actually lets us give feedback (and get feedback) on TNs. I’ve long wanted to be able to communicate with some of these folks, many of whom I do not know from their handle.
I add guys like Yoni and Todd and then delete them when I don’t get any love back…
Seriously though - I must look at my CT home page more times then I look at any other web page and read every note that goes by on wines that I have in stock… When someone writes a nice note on one of my wines (regardless of whether or not they liked it) then I usually add them…
I don’t add anyone who just puts scores with no notes. that information does me no good at all.
