Jeff, shoot me a DM with your email and I’ll put you on the thread next time we start planning. We are vaguely shooting for a quarterly get together.
Great notes, Robert, and particularly appreciate your observations on the Beta.
Curious if anyone on here knows what the elevage looks like? I’d imagine some combo of neutral and large format, but who knows. As Marcus Goodfellow and others have pointed out oak extraction is very different at 12.5 vs 15% abv, so if you told me there was some non-truly neutral oak I wouldn’t be shocked.
Another local Houstonian who would love to participate and contribute in a future meet up…
Shoot me a dm w email, will put you on the email thread next time we plan one.
Justin, thanks for the note on the Maus. Based on what you said, I think I’ll go ahead and open one. How long of a decant (assuming there was one)?
I think @Dav1d_Sawyer said it was an hour in a decanter sometime in the afternoon then back in the bottle, but he can set me straight if I’m misremembering.
One more thing for alll of you Houston area Berserkers - the Rhone Rangers is holding a tasting this Friday evening at Decant Urban Winery featuring 25 Rhone variety producers from TX, CA and OR. No time like the present! Should be a treat.
Decanted for about an hour before dinner. It opened up much more after air during the tasting. I’d give it two hours. No regrets about opening one at this stage.
Houston here also, I’ll send you my email.
Thanks!
@Jeff_M1 Do you know why?
The vineyard was sold and the new owners ripped it out.
What a terrific lineup and report! Made me nostalgic for the ‘90s Bancroft Ranch Merlot. Mine are long gone.
Also in Houston and will send along my email. Additionally wanted to share that there’s a pretty decent looking burgundy tasting at Pappas steakhouse in a couple weeks that I’ll be attending. Not cheap, but they’re pouring DRC!
