I really liked Hollis’ idea in Jorge’s homebrew thread…so how many homebrewers do we have on here that would like to take part in a homebrew swap? Let’s see how many people we have interested then work out the details.

I’d be happy to. Just a couple of issues on my end:

  1. I, sadly, don’t have the time to brew as often as I’d like

  2. I brew “small” batches (this recent one came out to a little over 4 gallons only)

  3. Not so much “my” issue, but an issue nonetheless…how would this work? Shipping to numerous locations can get expensive real fast. I sent out 3 separate shipments a few weeks ago (both by FedEx & USPS) and in the end, the shipping turned my humble little Pale Ale into a freaking $10 bottle. :wink:

I think much of point # 3 would be determined by how many participants we had…I have done a few of these on a homebrew forum and what normally would happen is that you would send 3 bottles to 2 different people, then you would recv 3 bottles from 2 different people. The person putting these together normally had people trading within closer proximity to keep shipping down.

We’ll see how it goes…it may not even get off the ground!

Mark me down as a participant! But I just want to say, I am still VERY new to homebrew and am still in the extract phase… So I don’t want to lead anyone on to believing that I am going to be sending award winning brews lol. Mostly what I want to gain from the experience(s) is A) feedback on my beers and suggestions, and 2) to sample other people’s work and learn some of their tricks and brew logic.

I’d be down with something like this. Dunno about a monthly thing, but I think a quarterly system could be perfect.

Ok, looks like we have all of 4 people that may want to do this? So for the first round since we are sort of geographically split into two pairs how about if Hollis and Jorge swap a few and Tom and I swap a few? We could plan this far enough out to let everyone get things together for packing/shipping/etc…maybe Mid May ship date? I am just tossing ideas out there so if you guys have other suggestions do chime in! Also, I agree on not doing it too often as it does get costly!

I am in Greenville, SC.

I currently have bottles of an IPA that I brewed, and a single hop “extra” pale ale fermenting.

Ok, so my “Golden” has been tasted. Love the nose…on the palate, falls a bit behind. The big issue is clarity. This is a CLOUDY beer and I obviously sped the process up too much. Yeast didn’t flocculate completely so there are quite a bit of minuscule particles floating around. If you want to do the trade Hollis, I’m all for it. If not, I totally understand.

On a side note, I may soon be able to trade “other” goods as well! ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs
That’s right ladies and gents, that’s a Cascade hops sprout! Got 2 of those and 2 Fuggles in the ground as well. 3 out 4 are showing signs of life.

I am DEFINITELY still interested, cloudy beers don’t bother me :slight_smile: . I am just wanting to taste some other peoples creations, and maybe spawn some conversations with them about what they did, so that I can hopefully gain some knowledge and become a better brewer (oh, and taste some good beer).

I am bottling this Sunday, I currently don’t have much left from my last batch, so if you are interested, I can either get some bottles in the mail right after bottling, or wait until carbonation is complete. I am bottling a single hop IPA made with citra hops and some honey malt.

Cool. Tell you what, bottle your brew. Let it carbonate for a week or so and then we’ll do the swap.

So the beer is bottled, and I tasted some of the green beer that was leftover, personally I think it came out great :slight_smile: . In another week and a half when the carbonation is complete we can ship each other some brews [cheers.gif]

Jorge, sorry for the delay, but I am ready to ship whenever you are :slight_smile: .

And I must say, I am particularly proud of this brew, it is the first time I have come up with the recipe myself, and I think it came out particularly well. I don’t know how much we are planning on exchanging, but I bottled in 22oz bottles.

Hollis, no worries. I have a few bombers left but my supply is dwindling fast. I leave for a trip on Thursday and return Memorial Day. Let’s shoot for next week then ok?
