Mosel Fine Wines Summed it up quite remarkable: "The top wines shine through great finesse, aromatic presence, and elegance…and those fortunately enough to lay their hands on (them)…are in for a feast for the senses. They are among the finest ever at this Estate!

2025 delivered a more typical and powerful set of wines ala 2019-2020-2022 as the year was warm and dry. Volumes are not huge but healthy. More on the vintage below from Mosel Fine Wines and Lars Carlberg.

Falkenstein sits in the Saar, the coolest and most electrifying corner of the Mosel. As I’ve said before, I believe the greatest Riesling value in the world comes from this tiny estate: Hofgut Falkenstein. If you’re receiving this offer, it’s because you’ve already discovered what makes these wines so special: mind-bending complexity, razor-sharp precision, unmistakable Saar character, and an almost unbelievable ability to deliver all of it at modest prices. These are cerebral, delicious, utterly distinctive Rieslings, and this presale is being shared only with those who have supported them before.

We’re thrilled to have the AP-12 Kugel Peter back this year after receiving none in 2024. Last year, the Fuder 22 Mia (AP-22) was so scarce that we had to allocate it bottle by bottle. I expect it to be one of the most sought-after wines again this year, although the larger 2025 harvest should mean slightly better availability than the tiny 2024 vintage.

Demand for Falkenstein continues to climb and is easily the strongest I’ve ever seen. In fact, I receive more inquiries about these wines than any other Riesling we sell. Despite that, pricing has remained remarkably restrained. Most wines saw either no increase or only a modest bump, which is astonishing considering the growing international demand. I still believe these wines have plenty of room to appreciate in price over the coming years, but thankfully they remain one of the greatest values in the wine world.

To put it in perspective, the cost of a single bottle of Keller GG or Egon Müller is roughly the same as seven to ten bottles of Falkenstein. That’s not to diminish those legendary producers, but rather to highlight just how extraordinary Falkenstein’s value proposition remains. For the quality, individuality, and sheer brilliance in the glass, I can’t think of another wine region in the world offering more for the money.

Mosel Fine Wines Issue #81
Johannes and Erich Weber were all smiles about their 2025 vintage: “There was refreshingly little to report on the growing conditions! The weather was perfect: It was warm but without any heat spikes and rain always came at the right moment. There was a little bit of pressure from Peronospora which was easily manageable. It was a good old northern European weather like in the old days, just a little hotter. This made us start the harvest on September 10. There were a few periods of rain during the harvest, and this put some pressure on the grapes despite them having only 80° Oechsle. So, we had to be swift and, eventually, we brought in everything in 2 weeks of effective harvest days. We finished the harvest on October 2. The result exceeded our expectations. The wines prove remarkably open and approachable despite high acidity and / or low pH levels. It is a great vintage for us!”

The Estate was able to produce its full portfolio of wines including its flagship bottlings of dry, off-dry, and fruity-styled Riesling. The ripeness of the vintage also allowed the Estate to produce some Auslese. In parallel, it released its 2024er Spätburgunder and bottlings of NV Sekt from 2023 base wines.

Once again, the Webers produced stunning wines with the telltale zesty precision that has made the Estate famous. The top wines shine through great finesse, aromatic presence, and elegance, and those fortunately enough to lay their hands on, for instance, bottles of the 2025er Krettnacher Ober Schäfershaus Trocken, Niedermenniger Herrenberg Spätlese Feinherb Meyer-Nepal, Krettnacher Euchariusberg Kabinett Gisela, or Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Spätlese Klaus (just to name a few of the super-stars in the portfolio) are in for a feast for the senses. They are among the finest ever at this Estate. Another huge success is its current release of its NV Spätburgunder Sekt, even if it comes with a warning that the wine needs extensive bottle aging to tame its mousse. We think you get the message: This Estate dished up another cracking vintage!

91 pts MFW (Mosel Fine Wine)
The 2025er Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett Trocken Mutter Anna (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) comes from fruit picked early on 60-70-year-old vines. This offers a nice nose made of herbs, smoke, pear, bergamot, melon, and fine spices. The wine is beautifully balanced on the palate and leaves a juicy feel of fresh herbs in the long finish. This is a beautiful Kabinett. 2035-2065

*
The 2024er Niedermenniger Herrenberg Spätburgunder Trocken was made from destemmed fruit and was fermented and aged in traditional Fuder. The wine offers a nice nose made of cranberry, Morello cherry, spices, and mint. It is animating and fresh on the palate at first before a riper touch of red berried fruits comes through and adds juiciness and depth to the experience. The finish is fresh, delightfully light-footed yet superbly persistent and packed with flavors. This is an outstanding expression of light-footed Pinot Noir. Now-2030

“Falkensteiner” Spätburgunder Rosé Sekt extra brut NV 93pts
$44.99 regular price x just 9 bottles available
Made from grapes grown in Niedermenniger Herrenberg. The wine fermented in a big oak cask. Disgorged May 2026 after 18 months.
93 pts MFW
The Spätburgunder Rosé Sekt Brut Nature was made from grapes harvested in the Niedermenniger Herrenberg harvested in 2023 and was whole bunch pressed and underwent its secondary fermentation in bottle for 18 months before being disgorged in May 2026 (the disgorgement date is not provided on the label). The wine offers a stunning and hugely complex nose of prune, cranberry, barbecue herbs, rose petals, and smoke. It is just brutally young and marked by tart chalk at this stage and really needs a few years of bottle aging to let its flavors develop, but there is great potential. This is a truly remarkable Sekt in the making! 2030-2045
