Herman Story Love

As my second post, I am giving big props to an Excellent and consistent producer Herman Story Wines. Run by Russell From, these wines to me consistently deliver year in and year out. They make an Excellent Syrah, a great Grenache and very good whites. I see alot of love for the likes of Bedrock and Carlisle which I fully understand, but I think the QPR for this winery is outstanding! Some feedback, Good or Bad would be appreciated.

PS-Merry Christmas to the politically incorrect!

I need to check these out, as well as barrel 27. I bought from McPrice for years, but ran out of room in the cellar so stopped buying. I’m a big fan of the style and the QPR is killer.

Enjoyed a 2008 Herman Story Larner Grenache over the weekend. Also opened a 2010 Saxum Broken Stones and a 2010 SQN Five Shooter Syrah and the Herman Story was up to the task…can’t beat the relative value.

Love HS, especially the Nuts and Bolts bottling, consistently delicious.

Just finished the last of my 2005 Herman Story White Hawk vineyard syrahs, and it was fabulous.

The only thing better than drinking a nice Herman Story wine is partying with Russell after hours and raiding his wine library. He and his staff are awesome and make very good wine.

After a recent trip to Paso, Herman Story is excellent wine. Top shelf stuff indeed. And Mr. From is a good shit. Really kind guy.

They’re always good wines. One of my favorite producers matter of fact. Just not a lot of the stuff around on the east coast.

Good wine, better price and great guy.

+1 to all the HS love

I’ve got a 2010 Herman Story Grenache On The Road and a 2011 Herman Story Syrah Nuts and Bolts. I’m anxious to give these a try, but I’m guessing it’ll be a while. I’ll likely add to my HS collection long before I ever open one.

I agree! Russell hit my radar screen years ago with his excellent 2005 Larner Grenache, when he was my WM of the year 2007. I love his non-BS attitude in general and his wines speak for themselves. I reviewed his 2011 releases in September (along with 10 Late Bloomer) and they were all 90 - 95.

I love the label on Late Bloomer – Russell’s 8th Grade Class photo.

I jumped on the list after tasting the White Hawk syrah at a wine bar in Sausolito but dropped it pretty quickly. I think the wines are good examples of their style, and I’d probably buy a few per year if they were available at retail for the club price, but the business model aggravated me - set shipments with an array of wines I couldn’t choose all at the same price. I also don’t think they’re a particularly good QPR - I feel like if I want something in that big, bold, ripe style I can find a bottle locally for less or at least the same price minus shipping.

Not trying to rain on anyone’s parade here, just sharing my experience. They can be fun wines and Russell does seem like a great guy.

+2. I was part of their wine club but had to pare down last year in an effort to cut back. I still have a few left and love the Larner and White Hawk Syrahs the best. Great QPR.

Which I knew that when you were over last! I think I have one more in the house that I could have popped! I also have a couple in storage at WineCare that I’d gladly share with you if I ever get access to my wine ever again!

This is nothing against other people liking the wines, but I tried a few different ones about 4 years ago and hated them. SOOOO much alcohol!

AFWE ALERT!

For the AFWE haters
Herman Story is wine for the big boys. If you don’t like it and have to resort to calling it high alcohol, there is room for you at the kiddy table.

Dave - that’s just an excuse to get together again.

Esp as I may be decamping within a month!
