I’ve had good experiences on both the buyer’s and seller’s side.
What James said… I receive notices that I was outbid and if it is something I am watching closely or know I won’t have time to up my bid later, I’ll just login and bump it right after I get the notice.
Can someone here clarify Heritage’s position on sales tax? I read their FAQ, but I can’t discern if they charge sales tax only to TX addresses, or they charge sales tax per each individual state guidelines.
I’ve bought a great deal of wine from them. Always good. I would give a bit more caution about the internet wine auctions. You can get great deals, but may of the wines are really old and iffy. Nothing untoward, just older wines from bad vintages. I’ve only had a couple bad bottles though.
Sales tax is only charged on shipments to California, Texas, and New York.
They are horrible, keep away from them. They have far too many bidders, you do not need to add to them.
Seriously, I think they are probably the best of the auction companies, and not only incredibly responsive, but more importantly, the bottles have been without exception as described. I say that having bought a large amount of wine from them, far less recently, as like every other auction house, they have knowledgeable bidders, so practically nothing slips between the cracks. But it is an excellent source for wine at all levels.
I should mention that Frank Martell is a friend. He does rattle on a lot about Chelsea, but otherwise he’s a pretty decent guy.
you can now add Illinois to the list. I found out after the fact.
