The taps that I’ve used (including the one in the photo, have long stems that reach to the bottom of the bottle. Accordingly, the pressure of the wine pushes the wine out with the bottle in an upright position. A very slow flow given the small holes in the tap, but it’s effective for tapping most of the bottle. At that point, you can remove the tool with no concerns.
Frankly, it’s more of a historic curiosity than an effective tool, but it’s fun
Many thanks to all for your advice. Ulitimately the one thing that got me through is that none of you were scared like me, so maybe I had too much fear. I ended up twisiting with pliers, breaking the top of the cork then just inserting an electric corckscrew and up.
