Help- Wine books for Christmas gifts

Want to give books to a couple of my buddies for Christmas. Both are kind of new to wine, but by no means newbies. One has an interest in Italian wines, the other Rhone/Rhone Rangers. I thing a general information book on either area would be perfect. I am sure I could have searched this, but too lazy.

Suggestions?

Thanks!!

Passion on the Vine. Sort of an Italian Adventures on the Wine Route.

More in the reference vein, but good reading:

more recent is Tom Hyland’s new book:

Not sure if this fits the bill or how you would go about it from Chicago, but Kermit Lynch is signing copies of the 25th anniversary edition of “Adventures on the Wine Route” at Wine Library in New Jersey this Thursday evening. You can probably call them and ask them to send you a couple.

I would do it for you, but I’m going to be in NYC that evening.

If you’re in to California wine, Jon Bonne’s recently released book is outstanding.
