Help wanted: large format Champagne hunters needed

I’d like to pick up a 3l bottle of Champagne for Jen’s upcoming 40th birthday party (as apparently 10 days in San Sebastian, Madrid, and Champagne is insufficient as a celebration, so we definitely also need a big party at the house, right? Men…we’re doing celebrations wrong, let me tell you), so please, to those who read this, keep an eye out for a great buy somewhere out there, and PM or email me if you see something, between now and mid-May. Costco in Los feliz has bollinger special cuvée for $349 for a 3l. Just saw it two days ago.

We do like what Pierre Peters we’ve had, however the notes on this make it seem like it is more of a citrus-driven, crisp and minerally style, whereas Jen’s all about the silky, weighty style.

So far my favorite options are:

NV Nicolas Maillart Champagne 1er Cru Brut Platine
NV Billecart Salmon Brut Reserve
NV Bollinger Special Cuvee (though if without bottle age, might be a bit harsh, no?)

Come to think of it…I might be ok with just a magnum, as I imagine most of her friends will be drinking either La Crema (barf) or liquor.
