I have enjoyed many a birthyear (children '89 and '91) and anniversary wine ('87). Many went for earlier events, some got sold for law school/med school tuition, and some remain. They are for the journey and so different varieties and maturations are great. You also get to experience the wine mature without the backtalk! Make sure to use along the way. For anniversary purposes, the Germans & Austrians are shipping a lot of Riesling to the USA in 1500ml magnums now, and all other things being equal, a magnum ought to age more slowly than a normal 750ml bottle.
Also, if you find that the USA supply of 2017s is shrivelling up, then you could look to purchase your 2017s in Europe, although getting them over to the USA could be difficult if you live in a felony state.
