We use hexclad for everything now.
Mauviel has by and large performed the best for me, and sometimes they have sets for relatively cheaper than usual.
All clad has some decent pieces as well.
Maybe I’m a lunatic, but I actually like the “dirty” heavily-used look on pans. Gives em character. I do expect the interiors to be very clean however, with a pass for similar buildup around any rivets. Although I totally understand how/why others might feel differently, I would be upset if somebody took Barkeepers Friend to the exterior of my cookware.
(This is not meant to be a criticism, rather just casual talk, if you will)
I bought one Hexclad out of curiosity. The black interior surface started flaking away after a year or two. Trashed it, and will never buy again. Hopefully you and others haven’t had the same issue.
We have used our hexclad skillet for ~4 years with metal spatulas and use it every day. That sounds like a manufacturer defect.
Has the non-stick property lasted for the ~4 years without noticeable degradation?
Yes it looks like new. I’ll post a pic later.
Glad to hear this. Oddly, the flaking started near the lip, up away from where the actual cooking of food happens.

I put together my own All-Clad LTD set in the late 80s, they definitely have that heavily-used look and I like it, it’s what pots and pans look like in a good restaurant that’s been open a while (would have to add some dents for that look though).

This is our 4 year old hexclad pan, on which we use exclusively metal spatulas.
Wellll, hell. That looks pretty good. I’d loooove to have a non-stick that stays that way for more than a year or two. Maybe I’ll give em another chance.

Yeah it’d probably look even better if I cleaned it better before the pic too lol. It’s pristine.
Ha! Love it! My flaking started up where the chevrons are. I must have gotten a bad unit; mine saw nowhere near daily use.
It looks like Hexclad changed its material. They used to use PTFEs and switched to using a ceramic material. I think that’s leading to more recent reviews on Reddit discussing losing non-stick properties faster (like other ceramics) and potential chipping.
