Hello and nice to meet you or see you again whichever the case may be. For my first post, I’ll give a TN for the bottle we opened last night.
1997 Harlan…err sorry
2007 Schild Barossa Shiraz
Went downtown to meet a friend for happy hour, did not encounter the expected traffic, so I popped into Esquin to kill 20 minutes. Wine clerk extraordinaire Justin handed me a bottle of this after I told him that Fridays are family pizza night at our house.
So- this had a reddish violet color with a pretty clear rim. Expressive, perfumed nose with a touch of oakiness, but not in an overbearing way. First taste was bing cherries, cinnamon, and dark chocolate. The wine is a bit rich, but not syrupy or gooey. Mid palate offers the tart side of the cherry flavor and the medium finish brings some sweetness back around with some tannin and grip. The wine showed plenty of acidity and was nicely balanced.
Not a traffic stopper for my first post, but the one we drank. We have about half the bottle left and I’m curious what it will show today.
