Heading to Rome and Southern Italy in October

Peter; I agree with Neal as the tartufo is amazing and the Piazza Navona is a very short walk from the Pantheon.

There also is a lot of helpful info on Rome in a thread I used for my trip a couple of months ago…lots of restaurants and gelato!

Cheers!

+2.

I really enjoyed Naples as a visitor; sure the city is grimy and there’s trash sitting on almost every street, but it’s alive in a way that Rome or Florence aren’t and very historic as well. Definitely wouldn’t live in the city, the suburbs (on the way to Pompeii) looked much nicer.

Also again with the Pantheon, I was there 2 weeks ago and there was a “flash choir”, it was just something special being there at the right place at the right time :

October is the shoulder season on the Amalfi coast, cheaper rates but hotels start to close for the season in October.

This place was amazing - http://www.palazzomurat.it. In Pasitano, which is touristy but easy to jump on a water taxi to explore Ravello, Sorrento, Capri, etc. Hotel is the nicest experience of its type for me anywhere - your own little private oasis. Doesn’t have the spectacular ocean view but the setting is stunning. My avatar was taken from their garden. Incredible place.

Search this whole site and you will see a lot of good ideas for this area.

+1 stayed there last October. Great patio too.
