After a dinner with multiple wines opened and tasted, have you ever blended two or more of the favored wines for fun? The results can be surprising with one plus one equaling more than two.
I do it at home when I have 2 or more opened that arent so good on their own, ie. too fruity + too austere = perfecto!
Beats pouring them both down the drain. I am practicing becoming a negociant!
I’ve done it with inexpensive wines. I had a very thin white wine (a Gavi, or Muscadet or something) and a too-oaky chardonnay. Together they were half decent.
I have seen 1989 Bonneau Celestins mixed with 2005 Maybach Materium…
I’ve done this type of thing but not with good wines.
I think a La Tache could be improved with some Mollydooker ![]()

I do this with inexpensive wines, but not necessarily bad wines. We had three relatively inexpensive wines last night and the remainders fit into one bottle. It ended up being a pretty good blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Portuguese varietals.
At our SQN dinner this past june, Ryan Curry was sitting across from me and handed me a glass. After I sniffed/tasted it he told me he blended a few of the SQN’s (Poker Face included) together. The best part? it tasted better ![]()
