Have you been on WineBerserkers from the start?

June 19 , 2009. I would have been 48 though I turned 49 in short order. Being on WB really ages you apparently

I mostly started out on wldg around 1999 with minor forays into wcwn and bwe

I followed the wine asylum/wine therapy/wine disorder crowd like Mary’s lamb

I first visited squires when someone posted a link on wldg to a:1993 burgundy thread on squires. They said Parker and Rovani were dissing the vintage which seemed weird to me but turned out to be true

Sometime in 09 for me

Yeah, Squires and EBob - that was an interesting time - it’s kind of hard to remember some of the vitriol and the AFWE postings. My vague recollection is Squires had a board on Prodigy - somehow he teamed up with Parker. Subsequently he became pretty much a police force to be reckoned with. Things did end up more civil here. (of course there have been some banishments here too! Somehow I have managed to avoid that!)

Looks like Jan 3, 2020. If I remember right I was doing research into 2018 Bordeaux futures (had decided to plunk into longer term collecting following a promotion) and found the thread here.

I was looking for my first post and I could have sworn there was a thread for introducing yourself, but I’m struggling to find it.

Prodigy hired subject matter experts to participate in various bulletin boards and Parker was the expert on the Prodigy wine board. Mark Squires was the lead moderator of the wine board when Prodigy announced that they were shutting down and he started a web-based board to give the Prodigy WBJs (Wine Board Junkies) a place to stay together after the shutdown. Parker, having built a lot of relationships with the Prodigy WBJs, participated on Mark’s board as a member of the community. Eventually Mark and Parker partnered up and Mark’s board became the eBob board.

Thank you. Guess I didn’t post in there but I don’t think I had much else going on in the spring of 2020.

Joined in March of 2010 at the ripe age of 29.

June 7, 2009. There were whispers of Wine Beserkers on Ebob, but the mods were pretty efficient in stamping out any direct mention. I finally found a direct reference on the Wine Spectator board (from Dan Posner, sure wish he hadn’t sef-banned from WB), and immediately joined. I had just turned 49.
Edit: my first post from that June:

I was here very early. I started on the boards back in the mid-1990s on Wine Lover’s Discussion Group. I also spent time on the Ebob board a bit later. Such a wealth of information. As a relative newcomer to wine, the bulletin boards were very important in my education. I’ve not been so active since social media came along, but these sorts of fora still have a very important role to play. You can tap into expertise here in a way you can’t easily using social media platforms.

May 29, 2009. I was 42 back then.

Search says my 1st post was in Oct 2010. I lurked here for maybe a year as none of my close peeps from BWE then, which I believe is done with now, were posting here. I posted a bit at ebob prior to this.

My 1st post: 1970's Bordeaux

I joined on June 2, 2009. I was 26 years old.

I think I was 22 or 23 or so when I joined eBob.

6/2/09 club ftw!!!

I haven’t found my first post but I did find this from May 2009. Sort of an evergreen question, I guess.

Hello Fellow Beserkers! Thought I would check out the new site since this place came up in conversation with fellow winos many times in the past month… and it was worth signing up to use this icon [1928_middle_finger.gif] Cheers!

Berserkers are known for making newcomers feel welcome. It’s a tradition

Fairly early here, as well. May 27, 2009. Was on eBob for a few years and after being suspended a couple times figured my time had grown short and was invited here. A young 37 when I joined WB and an even younger 33 on eBob. I’m an old 53 now.
