Have you attended a vineyard wedding?

My wife and I have been invited to a wedding in Calistoga (Napa) later in the year. Has anyone been to a wedding held in a vineyard? I’m just curious what they’re like.

Had my reception in a vineyard in July. Bring sunscreen, bug spray, and an umbrella. In that order. If it’s in September/October, switch the sunscreen and bug spray.

  1. i thought you couldn’t call it a “wedding” in Napa if the event was held at a winery. maybe a vineyard is different?
  2. re: what a wedding in Napa is like? expensive.

My younger brothers’ wedding reception (not wedding itself) was in the vineyards of Edna Valley Winery. But the reception area was tented substantially off from the surrounding landscape, which you mostly could appreciate if you walked outside of the reception area. That was the best part, and we got some very nice photos of family and kids around sunset in the vineyard.

You could only have Edna Valley wines at it, but they have a pretty wide selection of decent quality wines, so it was better wine overall than you usually see at a wedding reception.

We had our daughter married at Melville Winery in Lompoc. We did the ceremony in the vineyard shortly before harvest and it was beautiful out. We then had the DJ in the tasting room and it was a gas drinking pinot noir seeing everyone dance to the usual wedding blasts coming out of the speakers. It was a great day and it was one of those moments in my own wine experience, joined to the joy of my daughter marrying my son in law. Amazing day.

I held mine at Windy Oaks!

Mmm… depending on the setup and the season, if they have a short trek to the seating area, consider bringing wipes ( to wipe off dirt or mud) and an umbrella.
Also, it may be windy!

Yes. My cousin was married at a vineyard just outside Calistoga. The vineyard location was nice, but generally unimportant. It was just a wedding. Going to Napa and spending a few days bopping around the vineyards made the trip worthwhile.

My wife and I were married at Caymus last October after her father’s home burned down two days before the wedding! As Jay just said it is pretty standard wedding stuff albeit my own wedding which was cool.

My brother-in-law’s wedding and reception was held at a lovely winery/vineyard on the North Fork of Long Island about five years ago. It was a blast. Everything was perfect, actually. There were even a lot of the same activities that Serge mentions above…and then some.

I had my first wedding out in the vineyard I managed and it turned out to be a wonderful day (the marriage on the other hand was not). pileon

Sometimes people wear the wrong footwear to vineyard weddings.
Yes, wind can be a problem for women with fancy hairdos.
Sometimes it can be quite hot for old folks.

A vineyard wedding? I was killed at a vineyard wedding.
Slowly I turn, step by step, closer…closer.
Is that a vineyard wedding hat company hat? That’s the same kind of hat I was wearing when I was killed! I wouldn’t have lost his life if I had of been wearing a good hat when that safe fell off that 15 storey building - but no! I was wearing a hat like this one. (I punch hole through hat) That’s the cheapest hat I ever saw … Oh! I’m dead! Dead! Dead!

Yes, The Bagel Street vineyard wedding.

I remember the fire you are speaking of and the story of the upcoming wedding. Thanks for giving me the final chapter!
