We’re going to Napa/Sonoma in a couple of weeks (we’ll just miss BerserkerFest), and I was talking today to a buddy of mine who
just got back from Cancun. He told me he bought 2 bottles of liquor in Cancun, hand carried them through security and customs
in Mexico and the U.S., and was allowed to bring them onto the plane.
When did this happen, and what is the carry-on limit? If this is actually happening, I can save a few bucks on shipping!!!
Restriction still here in the US on domestic carriers…can’t say anything for Aero Barracho Perdido Airlines, however.
What you CAN do is slip a few mini’s in your 3 Oz bag (hell, who needs shampoo) and drink those during your flight instead of paying $6 for bottom shelf swill. I do it everytime I fly now.
“Just a ginger-ale please…plenty of ice. Thank you!”
I do the same thing…except my order is usually, “ice water and a glass of ice please” or occasionally “ice and a can of tonic water” if I am having my summer G&T. I’ve got a favorite liquor/wine store near each hotel I usually stay in. Also, if I am staying for more than a day or so, I will often buy a bottle of zin, syrah, shiraz, etc. to have in the room. Had a nice bottle of Joel Gott Zin in NY recently for about $16 that was lots better than the $30 1/2 bottle of “whatever” in the room and the $20 watery scotch in the hotel bar (or minibar). I usually don’t finish the bottle, but still much cheaper …and better than the alternatives!
I seem to recall reading that TSA is easing the restriction this year and it may be totally gone by the end of next year.
I just googled around and found this article from USA Today last fall on the issue.
Let’s hope it does go through. Right now though, the ban is still in full effect. Maybe (as suggested above) your buddy was flying a Mexican airline or bought the wine at a duty free shop?
i flew two weekends ago. still only could carry 3oz of liquid. also, the guy in front of me got yelled at for drinking minis on the flight. it was airtran so not sure if it is their policy or not.
Ya, you have to be sly about it, that’s why I order a ginger-ale on the rocks, suck it down, and pour myself a stiffy when no one’s looking. It feels so good getting away with something so ridicously small with what we have to put up with flying these days.
when we landed in orlando and the stewardess was taking trash from everyone, a guy in front of me handed her a few minis. she gave him a little stern talk about how he shouldn’t have brought them on and if they would have seen him they would have confiscated it. it was kinda funny
