Has Anyone Been Drinking BerserkerDay Wines Lately?

Oh man, glad it showed well. The 2021 is gonna live a looong time, I think, and it sometimes can be a little grumpy, but it’s also showing nice pockets of openness.

The acid shows up on Day 2. Still has a Bordeaux Blanc feel, but for my palate it was more lively than on Day 1. (I’m finishing Day 2 as I type.)

Simply outstanding value for a clean, relatively crisp SLO chard. Meyer lemon, nice salinity, a touch of mango just to remind you that you are still in CA. The quality equal of CA chards at double its price.

Thank you John. I’m obviously very happy with the wine but have been pleasantly surprised at all the great reviews here and on CT.

Just drank one this weekend. Brambly, savory, black/red berry fruited, fun food wine. Hit the spot. Agreed that best consumed now.

Our last bottle of Virage 2016 rose’. Happy to open it and find it still singing, but sad to say goodbye.

Lump in my throat on this one. I will miss dealing with Emily, and Virage wines always were top notch (though I never tried the rosé). Another one of life’s missed opportunities for me, I guess.

Anyway, who doesn’t like a good Mind Left Body jam? I do, but I don’t hear it enough anymore. Good thing I can have a glass of Extradimensional Wine Co. Yeah! 2022 Mind Left Body Mourvedre while I am reminiscing about the good ol’ days. I’m no bathtub chemist, but this seems like a Southern Rhone blend with just a hint of chocolate. It’s possible that I hallucinated that last part, but I meant it in the best possible way. For all the depth of flavor, the wine somehow manages to stay light on its feet.

Impressive job, @H_Wallace_Jr , I have a bunch more bottles of yours in my basement. My searchlight will be casting for them pretty soon.

2021 Arabilis Dampier Vineyard Chard. Every Arabilis wine we’ve had from BD has been excellent and this was no exception.

@Kenny_McMahon1 I plan on opening one of your chards in the next few weeks. But! I love to cook and want it to pair it with something. The girlfriend loves scallops- so that;s always an option. If you have any dish you’d recommend tag me and I’m down to make it and have the wine with it.

Yesterday turned into a beautiful, sunny Friday afternoon, so I opened what I think might have been my last 2024 Paper Planes Rosé. It’s still really good, and I stand by what I said in my earlier not in this thread:

I paired this (kinda ridiculous) piece of sturgeon with his Chardonnay back in February. I think you’re on the right track with scallops.

Living in Ohio mean I doubt I can get that kind of seafood without dropping bank… but dang does that look worth it.

Shout out to one of my fave Berserkers, @Nola_Palomar . I recently found a 500 ml of Don Miguel Vino Tinto Dulce Natural that I must have purchased 10 BDs ago, and I decided to open it tonight. This is quite a nice nightcap. Expressively floral nose, red fruited with a touch of earthy dark coco, but not heavy despite the 16% abv. Maybe if I search a little more, I can find another one of the white ones I also bought that year. I remember digging them too.

Every bottle I open decreases my ability to enjoy these. It was a good run while it lasted.

I’ve got a mixed case of 2015s, 16s and 18s Franny Beck, including some single vineyard bottlings. I’ve never opened any of them, and instead have only opened a number (a case or so) of the Our Wines, 2017s, 18s, 19s and 20s. Based upon my Our Wines experience (they all seem on the “young” side of life) and the online reviews of the higher end Franny Beck PNs, I’ve just about forgotten about those Franny Beck wines. Brian, can you elaborate at all about what seemed to be going on with that 2018? Thanks!! :wine_glass:

Not Brian, but in my view the Franny Beck Blue Label Pinots approached the platonic ideal of a Willamette Valley blend. They had a lot of characteristics of a single vineyard designate; sense of place, a good front-middle-finish, low-ish ABV. And yet they didn’t require scrutiny or academic introspection. Every single one of mine were enjoyable, emphasis on “were.” I drank my last ever Franny Beck in February. End of an era.

• 2016 Tercero Verbiage Blanc.

This married surprisingly well with sesame crusted halibut with random honey/ginger/soy glaze. Excellent, but drink up. From CT review:

A great contrast with the fantastic 2017. This one seemed much more advanced, with strong mineral/concrete notes alongside apricot, beeswax and cashew. Much more oxidative taste compared to 2017. For lovers of fully mature Northern Rhone white wines. I prefer the 2017, but this was still very good and excellent value at Tercero prices. I would not keep these any longer, compared to the 2017 which seems to have more life to it.

The Baer Ursa’s I got in this year’s BD have been truly outstanding. Looking forward to visiting next time I’m up in Seattle and have a spare day.
