Have Todd and the “crew” yet posted the total tally numbers for BD17?
We are inching toward the finish line. Need a few more sellers to report back.
2022 Sandler Wine Company Pinot Noir Bien Nacido - I am an Ed fan, so may not be the most objective review. Popped and poured at cellar temp. Lovely dark blackberry color. This is infanticide. Lovely nose of brambly blackberry fruit, sun baked earth and underbrush. Still very tightly coiled on the palate with some tannic blackberry fruit and a very full rich finish. I would wait another 4-5 years to open another one.
2023 Ser sparkling Riesling. Previously I have only enjoyed 2 California Rieslings, a late 1990’s? Stony Hill and a 1985 Renaissance Late Harvest. Well, let’s make that a trio now!
From 60 year old vines and bone dry this is a terrific and unique wine. A strong mousse and complex nose with a fuller body and a long acidic after texture. Ginger, lemon, lime with persistence. My guess is used barrel fermented w/o ML. Glad to have 2 more and suspect a little bit of ageing with smoothen things even further.
Ah, that hurts. I missed out on this two times. First when she had her original blow out sale for those on her list, then again for the few cases she held back for BD. I think I have one bottle remaining but really wanted another case or two.
@Brian_Tuite You’re welcome! Happy wife…
popped another 2022 Vincent Chardonnay Tardive. I fear these are all going to be consumed this year now that I know how good they are.
Had my 6-pack of 2024 Royer Estate Chardonnay delivered today so I of course had to chill and pop one open.
This wine is delicious! The nose is alluring with aromas of matchstick, lemon curd, wet stone, yellow apple, Asian pear, and subtle vanilla. Dry. High acid. Medium alcohol. Med body. Long finish. The mouthfeel is very textured while also being light and fresh. Really good stuff. Glad I have 5 more of these as I have a feeling they will continue to improve with a few years of age.
2018 Ladd Chardonnay. The third vintage we’ve had and they’ve all been winners.
2022 Firmin Dezat Pouilly-Fumé courtesy of @Jason_L - done in a more aromatic, racier style. Lemony, citrus peel finish seals the deal.
It is a more fleshed out wine the next day with added volume and heft, if a little less precise. This is a lot of wine for the money. Drink/hold.
Drinking this 2023 Elkhorn Peak Pét-Nat now, having saved it since my BD16 order arrived. This is a fun, flavorful sparkler, and your descriptors tell the story – with an emphasis on “refreshing.” I like this a lot.
Well done, @EliseNerlove !
Twenty minutes before my friends obliterated all three bottles. The Cabot is drinking really nicely, perfectly paired with vietnamese palmyra cake (bánh bò thốt nốt) as the autolytic richness paired so well with the nuttiness and the acidity cut through the sweetness so well. The riesling and the chardonnay had enough cut for the carb heavy Lunar New Year food.
I forgot that I ordered a 6’er of this sparkling and received it earlier this week. (Leave it to BD)
It’s very good. Enjoying it as I type.
This is known as “the fog of BD.”
Two cases were delivered to my house last week while I was off skiing. My wife signed for them. So much for flying under the radar.
The one case I ordered has not arrived, but the Flannery Hanger steaks did. First time I have bought these. I cooked one last night and I have to say that this may be the best piece of beef I have ever had. Amazingly tender and flavorful.
Once you’ve had Flannery (and Morgan Ranch), it’s a paradigm shift. Pretty much everything from either is fantastic.
My latest addiction: the Flannery dry aged ground beef makes insanely good burgers.
Just opened the @ShelbyPerkins 2023 Bracken Chardonnay tonight. It is absolutely delicious. Has a beautiful mid palate heft somehow, despite only being 12%. One of my favorite Chards ever.
The big box of Morgan Ranch went straight into the deep freeze. That’s next on the list to try.
