This is delicious.
Which vintage?
Was digging around the cellar looking for a cab and found this 16 Jean Edwards Stagecoach, really quite delicious! RIP Karen!
2008 Cabot Red Blend Humboldt County. Absolutely delicious and fresh as a daisy still! And this was extra nice to encounter as I’ve had a lot of problems with the library Cabot bottles I’ve bought in past - almost all have been either corked, heat damaged or just generally oxidized.
Nice wine that will go a bit longer still, but getting towards its end. I’d drink it now.
Really delicious. Your post convinced me to grab this bottle, and we enjoyed it last night.
When we visited the tasting room years ago, the woman who led our tasting called Karen and her husband, who were in NJ, to help us put an order together after I mentioned we were Wine Berserkers. They were both so sweet and just so nice to chat with.
2021 Stereophonic Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Sabretooth Old Vine Old Bailey Vineyard
I had kind of dismissed this as a toasty fruit bomb but this has started to become much less dominated by upfront, bombastic fruit and shows more restraint and complexity. It’s still a really fun wine but traded in the locs and Ed Hardy for a polo and khaki shorts.
Keeping the Jean Edwards Berserker Day wines going.
Got this one on Berserker Day 2015. I think this was the 1st vintage of their Rutherford Cab. Jean Edwards Cabs age beautifully. At 10 plus years they really hit a sweet spot for me. If you like them bigger, drink sooner or give them a couple hour decant.
Love the choice of Ed Hardy imagery.
Fwiw my experience of nearly all Stereophonic cabs is they start off kinda fun but stoopid and then with a short time in the cellar they grow into much more interesting beasts. Was definitely true of Untrue Mader. 2021 Fail We May, Sail We Must is in a similar spot to Sabretooth right now IMO. I have no doubt it will evolve brilliantly. In Jason’s 2021 line I have found thatTo Who Knows When is the wine I have found most approachable and least “toasty fruit bomb” dumb.
I’ve found the Napa cabernets to be much more interesting off the bat, but maybe it’s the Paso ones that could use more time ![]()
All three of these were really nice last evening. Each was decanted for about 5 hours (and with the Chard, I did the double decant/pour 1 1/2 cups into my pyrex measuring cup, then back into the bottle thing Eric has recommended). I think the '08 Pinot presently is showing better/more generous than the '13, but again, both were very nice.
Apollo’s Praise Lovejoy with Kenji’s Frijoles Charros (y arroz Basmati de Costco) Excellent pairing
@Kelby_James_Russell, sorry I forgot to post during harvest, I drank your Franc and thought it was lovely. Nice work.
Cheers to BerserkerDays of old,
E
Ah thank you! And no need to apologize for not posting during harvest, I’m afraid a few of your Grenache and Salumeria bottles were delightfully enjoyed during the past couple of crazy months. Often times on a new tradition at our cellar we called “Pizza-Polka Saturdays”, pairing up the local radio station’s inexplicable (and delightful) noontime polka hour with a remarkable oasis of italian pizza that popped up in the tiniest town of the Finger Lakes ![]()
