Opened a bottle of the '22 Black Powder All Blacks last weekend - delicious right from the get go; as the name suggests, dark fruits, moderate tanins, very easy to drink. Great value.
Good to hear, maybe I’ll pop one soon.
Also had a Black Powder recently, big fan at the price
I am with you on this one. I think it’s best years are still ahead of it.
Thanks JP!
Was my English distributor who had submitted the wines, so came as a surprise to me too.
Received a very kind note from @Saul_Mutchnick in the mail today.
He’s a mensch.
Been saving History Ablaze for the summer. May check in on the 2021 Lost Coastlines soon, haven’t seen any recent notes.
The sun came out in Chicago today, so basically summer.
Thanks @JohnMag for posting the tasting note on the Zin!
I’ve been pouring this Zinfandel at events over the past couple of months, and it’s been tasting fantastic, it’s quickly become a crowd favorite this summer! I especially love how well it drinks with a slight chill, perfect for warm weather.
Fun fact: I first got the tip from the team at Nisei SF, who started serving it slightly chilled throughout their omakase course and it was a hit
Hope everyone who picked up a bottle at BD is enjoying it this summer too!
‘23 T Berkley Rose was fantastic tonight. No pics because it went down too quickly. The best of the last 3 vintages and perhaps a sign of things to come when the SVD cab francs get released?? @TBerkley
• 2019 JB Neufeld Old Goat.
I am not unhappy with the wine in the photo below. I am imitating the Old Goat because I am turning into one. I’ve think I have the old-guy-0-fs-given slouch down pat.
As for the wine…. Absolutely loved it.
From CT review:
6 hr decant. Has a Bordeaux ( St Julien?) sensibility, with red berries, plum, burnt stalks, graphite, pepper. Not completely integrated flavors; tannins also still a bit raw.
One day later, and this has evolved a lot. Less Bdx and more new world in its profile, with sweet berries a little more prominent, but also mellower. Actually better the next day; this bodes well for a future after a few more years in the cellar.
Really supple and excellent wine.
funny, we opened a 99 JB Neufeld last night too, ours was the regular Cab - delish!
Dragged a Sabelli-Frisch 2022 Picpoul to the Base Camp Eatery at Yosemite. (No one telling me not to so free corkage until I hear otherwise).
Very enjoyable wine. Medium weight, lots of lemon curd, would be hard to place blind and I’m not sure I like it more than a zippy, high acid French picpoul, but like literally every SF wine I’ve had it exceeded its price point, proved to be very interesting, was dispatched of quickly.
Love everything from Claire!
2018 Ser Graciano tonight. Delish!
Reminds me a bit of mondeuse.
Paige from Baer Winery put on a blind Willamette Pinot tasting for our group last night - Patty Green, Perkins Harter and Wolves Above. Cheers to BerserkerDay 2025
2022 Patricia Green Corrine Wadensvil block Pinot Noir Chehalem Mountains AVA - Luden’s cherry lozenge, bright acidity, lifted in the mouth. So pretty. 50% whole cluster which for me was a surprise, 1991 planting.
2022 Patricia Green Anderson Fam Vineyard Pinot Noir Dundee Hills AVA - pomegranate, strawberry, reminded me of stone fruit blossoms, lovely balance, other guys thought it could be a dupe for Village level Burgundy, we perceived more oak here like vanilla bean baking spices in the best way. 25% new oak 1992 planting.
2022 Patricia Green Durant vineyard Madrone block Pinot Noir Dundee Hills AVA - my notes read “very delicious”, more concentration. old school Oregon, sweet red fruit, almost Grenache-y. 40% whole cluster. My favorite of the night.
2022 Patricia Green Chehalem Mountain vineyard Wadensvil clone Pinot Noir Chehalem Mountain AVA- darker, more brooding, not as primary, stemmy. 40% whole cluster + old vine = concentrated, Erath planted in 1968. 20% new French oak
2022 Perkins Harter Sojeau Vineyard Pinot Noir Eola-Amity Hills AVA - savory nose, almost salty smelling, roast chicken skin?, potpourri, dried cherry. Everybody liked this a lot. So yums
2022 Perkins Harter Bracken Vineyard Pinot Noir Eola-Amity Hills AVA - earthy red fruit, reminded me of Chinese food, delicious. 25% new French oak.
Last blind pour was the blueberry wine collab called Wolves Above between Kelley Fox and Jim Anderson - blind, this really did a number on the group. I am going to analyze it tomorrow in the lab. I found it charming, especially with a chill on it.
Cheers Berserksers @ShelbyPerkins @Jim_Anderson and Paige from Baer who shared her BerserkerDay16 purchases with our group
So kind…pleased you enjoyed the wines.
Blueberry wine strikes again! Glad the Pinots didn’t trick as well.
