I remember tasting Mike’s first vintage of Harris Estate cabernet. I always thought it a wonderful and expressive and well made wine. Originally made by Mark Herold and now made by the none other than Thomas Rivers Brown, these wines always hit the qualitative mark right on. Mike was always a gentleman in our conversations from those early days; he always wanted honest input on his wine, and that is something I never shy away from. I guess it’s time to move onward. I wish him well.
If any of you Cab heads never tried Harris Estate, I recommend it. I still have some of those early Jakes bottlings in my cellar, maybe time to open one.
To all of our wonderful friends and club members, mailing list and great Cabernet aficionados:
Treva and I have decided it is time to pack up our wine library and turn over everything to younger blood and let someone else share the amazing experience we have had with our wine and property. On May 28th we gave over the ownership to David and Linda Jenkins, a wonderful couple and great wine lovers. The Jenkins’ will continue the excellence in winemaking and hospitality with our current team of Thomas Rivers Brown as winemaker, Josh Clark as viticulturist, and Brigid Bailie as general manager. David and Linda will be left a legacy of near perfection to start enjoying the fruits of their labor. We will continue to check in with Brigid and Bubba and we are ready to offer advice whether needed or not. We always said the best part of the wine business is the people we have met over the last 17 years. Treva and I will remain a part of the team as “Vintners Emeritus” and plan on being present for many of the future events that are being planned.
We have purchased a new home in Park City, Utah, and while trying to drink through our library of wines we will be skiing and playing golf with our family and friends while trying to teach Jake to hunt. (Good luck!)
We have made great lifelong friends and will continue to stay in touch. Every now and then when you lift a glass of Jake’s Creek, Lakeview, Treva’s Vineyard, or Indulgence, please drink a toast to us and we will do the same to you.
Cheers and hugs,
Mike, Treva & Jake
