Halfway there...what's your WOTY?

Thanks - it sounds like a very nice wine.

I have only ever had Jadot up to about 8 or 10 years of age - nothing even approaching 23 years.

And I have never gotten any “red” in the synesthesia, or any “medium” on the palate.

Only ever “black”, and “dull” or “thick”.

But, like I said, I am certainly open to the idea that a miracle might occur over time.

1973 Dom Oenotheque

I have a long shortlist thus far including:

2000 DRC R-C
1974 Giacosa Barbaresco
2010 Carillon Bienvenue-Batard-Montrachet
1945 Jaffelin Beaune ‘Bressandes’
1947 Comte de Moucheron Volnay ‘Clos de Chenes’
1958 Saltram Vintage Port
2005 J.F Mugnier Musigny
2002 Faiveley Musigny

1976 Sanford Pinot (Sanford & Benedict Vineyard)

1959 Latour makes it +2
1959 Ropiteau Chambertin clos de beze
1971 Sobrero Barolo
1961 Margaux

1991 Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon Bosche vineyard. Just an absolutely stunning wine. It’s the best cabernet I have ever had. I have to thank a LWS owner for the recommendation and tell him to hold me a few more bottles until I can make it back out to see him.

2006 Eaglepoint Ranch Petit Sirah, as it was far, far better than I could have ever anticipated.

2004 Dominus

1997 Henri Bonneau Marie Beurrier - Wow

1990 Taittinger Comte - best sparkler so far.

1964 Baby Jesus
1988 Leroy Richbourg
1990 Rousseau Ruchottes
2004 Coche Rougeots

hope to have more 1964s for a big birthday soon .

regards

michel

I think it was that HP Grenache I tasted while in W2.

2009 SQN This is Not an Exit Syrah
2009 Saxum James Berry Vineyard
2006 Aubert Chardonnay

But June is not over and I am looking forward to the 2000 Conterno Granbussia and the 1966 Clos Fourtet I’m opening Saturday and whatever else people bring to BF 7.0

I opened that wine at the NYC BerserkerFest 2 years ago, or so, and it was tight as a drum. Decant the snot out of that sucker.

There have been several contenders for me thus far, but I’ll whittle them down to three:
1973 Domaine des Baumard Quarts de Chaume
2007 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc
1994 Ridge Monte Bello

It’s been a damn good half-year.

  • 1982 Vieux Château Certan - Great wine. I was expecting tired. Wow.
  • 1982 Château Léoville Las Cases - Can’t complain when a spot-on LLC is only second best of the night to the VCC above.
  • 2002 Pol Roger Champagne Blanc de Blancs - I would love to slurp down more of these!
  • 2003 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau - The most impressive '03 VT I’ve had. Outstanding for the cheese course.
  • 2010 Domaine Pierre Guillemot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières - Another unexpected overachiever!
  • 2005 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Kabinett - Man, was this a good Kabinett!
  • 2002 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre - Always a treat to open Raveneau and this one was really good.

QPRs OF THE YEAR

  • 2012 Vignobles Brunier Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Le Pigeoulet en Provence - I love how this wine shows its humble terroir every bit as much as the Bruniers’ great VT does.
  • 2012 Château d’Epiré Anjou Clos de la Cerisaie - Fantastic for $13.50
  • 2004 Pierre Morey Meursault Les Tessons - Bought these as overstock many moons ago and forgot about them. Lots of pleasure now though.

I had a glass of this back in February or March. Textbook Hermitage.

1977 Fonseca port

Best so far were 2001 Le Clos du Caillou CDP reserve and 1996 Coche Dury PM Les Enseigneres. Just brilliant.

2007 Saxum broken stones

And I thought I was bad, starting a WOTY thread around Halloween [grin.gif]

There are actually 13 entrants on the list already, but nothing is likely to beat the 2001 Chateau D’Yquem, my first-ever perfect/100 point wine.
