I felt like the spice punched me in the face - but oddly not in a bad way. Drank over 3 days and day 3 was beautiful. I’ll let you all know how the other bottle is in 10 years… if I make it that long.
Got to order my six pack despite being late to the party thanks to Paul. Do you think they are good to go right away or something that I should lay them low and forget about them for awhile?
I have tried all of them except the Mouverdre – they are all approachable now, but so young. They definitely have lots of life ahead. So it depends a bit on how you like your wine. For me, I want to wait at least five more years on the Elevacion and Alturas. The Esquito I did not like as much at first. – almost a bit spritzy on opening. I thought it might be an off bottle (and of course it may still be). But, after a day or two it really came together. So I am thinking at least three more years on that one. I should also say that I bought two six packs so I could try one now and have at least one for later. These are really great wines, and at incredibly reasonable prices given the quality.
Thanks to all the posts, I decided to give Halcon a shot.
Based on posts, I was expecting good customer service and wine, but home delivery in the Bay Area, wasn’t expecting that!
Opened a bottle of 2018 Elevacion, enjoyed it a lot and putting the rest away for a while.
Mike - glad the Esquisto showed well.
Ron - I have heard from a couple of people that they detect an effervescence on our wines when they are younger. I must admit that I do not notice it. We only rack once, just before bottling. I suspect it is a little trapped CO2. The 2018 Esquisto maybe a little more likely to show that CO2 as it finished the very end of primary fermentation in the barrel.
Sanjeev - the 2018s will definitely benefit from a couple years in the bottle. I opened an 2018 Elevacion this past weekend and it was showing some serious tannin. I am starting to think that the Alturas is the better 2018 Syrah to open early.
