Gumbo & Zinfandel

Tonight’s supper was a rich chicken and sausage gumbo wirh filé instead of okra. We ate inside tonight, since today was cool, windy, and cloudy. Dinner wine was a Nine Gables Amador County 2000 Zinfandel Pifari Whispering Pines Vineyard = medium ruby garnet in color, with a thin light edge; rich, ripe, spicy nose and flavors of red and black berries; mid-palate of adequate acidity and resolved tannins; and a long spicy berry finish. It was very good with the spicy gumbo.

Then for dessert we had Comte and Sottocenere (Italian truffle cheese) with lavender-rosemary honey. It was very good with a 2001 Ravenswood Zinfandel Belloni Vineyard - rich berry fruit in nose and flavors; fruity mid-palate of balanced acidity and light tannins; and a medium long berry finish. A nice finish to a good light supper.
