Guilliams

Looks like they’re retiring…this message was on the website and their FB page:

Dear Friends,

After thirty-six years on spring Mountain, we are moving on. We have raised two sons and six thousand grapevines, made wine for thirty-four years, and met more friends than we could have ever imagined.
Our property and wine are sold and we are retiring. We will not disappear, we are just moving on. We thank you, our customers, for supporting us all of these years, and hope to see many of you in the future.
This is a bittersweet moment for us, but time for the next step in our lives.

Until we meet again,
Cheers!

John & Shawn

I have a lone bottle of the 1999 Spring Mt C/S buried in the cellar.

The Guilliams have made some very nice wines over the years and glad to see them staying on in consultancy. Looking at the Kieu Hoang website, it is interesting to see the export packaging for China on some of their wines. Hopefully they don’t package a Spring Mountain Estate Cabernet in a cone or a perfume bottle for stateside.

John seemed pretty tired when we visited last year, I’m sad to hear this but not surprised. I’ve really enjoyed their wines and I’m glad to have several bottles in the cellar.

To me this is sad but I understand the day comes when you have to hang it up.

This is one of the real artisan cabernets from Spring Mountain at reasonable prices. The family really put their heart and soul into this wine. I doubt it will be the same.

I am not a cabernet freak but I always sought out this wine for value and beautiful balance. A great loss to me.

We visited them a couple of times, and I spoke to Shawn to order some wine in June. I suppose their sons were not interested in carrying on. I should call and arrange to have my wine shipped.

They always held back vintages so there must be considerable inventory, although they made the decision not to bottle the 2011s. A 2007 Merlot that I had a couple of months ago was fantastic, and I am not a Merlot fan.

I think that might be my sole remaining bottle too after visting them in 2002! Will have to take a look for that. A nice spot. Wish them well.

Tasted their cab recently, never heard of them before…nice stuff
