Today after helping us empty our storage unit, Jeff Pfohl stayed for dinner. We had the rest of the green-chile lamb stew we started a couple days ago, with potatoes added. It was very enjoyable, and not very hot. with a 1995 Chapoutier Crozes-Hermtage ‘Les Meysonniers’ - cork barely colored; medium ruby-garnet in color; complex nose and flavors of secondary & tertiary dark fruit; balanced mid-palate with complex fruit and enough acidity; and a long complex finish. The 1999 Novy Syrah ‘Page-Nord Vineyard’ had distinct pine resin notes in nose, flavors, and finish that distracted from the fruit and shortened the finish. It was disappointing, and not at all like the last one we had a couple years ago. Fortunately the Crozes was very nice and good with the stew.
