Great seasonal pairing - Braida 2011 Brachetto d'Acqui and Summer Berry Trifle

I tasted this wine for the first time a couple weeks ago. For those who haven’t had it, Brachetto d’Acqui (at least this one) is a light red, slightly sweet, sparkling wine from Piedmont. As a rough analogy; Braida’s Brachetto d’Acqui is to red raspberry and strawberry as Vietti’s Moscato d’Asti is to peach and apricot.

Some suggested panna cotta and berries as a pairing so when the spouse announced she was making a sherry trifle with summer berries, it seemed like a natural fit.

It was! It has a perfumed, light berry nose and light red berries in the palate that resonated beautifully with the berries in the trifle and has a refreshing acidity that cut the richness of the custard. Wonderful finish to a meal.
