Thank you Henry. You got glasses from Alexander didn’t you?
Hi Chris,
Oh yeah - see posts #156, #157.
Very happy with these wonderful stems! Thanks so much!
Spent the last week with the Liberte and Cru. Amazing stems. Champagne and Liberte are a winning combination, and the Cru bowl size is ideal for both red and white Burgundy. I had a pretty hot love affair going with the Zalto Burgundy glass, but the Cru outperforms it in my estimation.
Got mine today. Drinking a pedestrian Provençal rose in the sun on the patio, but the aromatic lift the Liberte gives it is remarkable as compared to my Reidel white glass. Can’t wait to try a serious wine in the Cru or 1855.
Just snapped the stem (in the middle) of one of my Zalto glasses. So glad I have the Grassl Glass, which I prefer anyway.
Took the chance on some cru stems this morning. Really stoked to put these next to my gabriel glas.
Chris was fantastic in helping me decide.
First casualty…

I snapped the stem of one of my Crus in half.
The Mineralite has turned into my everyday glass. I love what it does for aromatics, and the smaller size almost controls pour sizes. I need to get a 6 pack.
My go to for Bdx blends is now the 1855. It has consistently performed better than the Riedel Sommelier Bdx glass. On syrah/rhone blends, I generally find the Riedel Sommerlier syrah glass is better. Completely agree on the white wine glasses – both Liberte and Mineralite are my go to now for any whites – no comparison to anything else I have tried.
WB folks, if you break one - go to the site, drop a glass in your cart and use REPLACEMENT - this drops the price to $10 (yes, I check you knuckleheads…) for the breakage warranty for WB participants.
FYI, we are releasing a tasting glass shortly. Update to come but it’s an affordable ($20.00 or less) hand-blown stem designed to withstand the rigors of more use in a commercial setting. I have some out in the wild to get reviews but pretty stoked about this one. It looks like a mini-Liberté. Web page should be updated shortly.
Thanks Chris
So I can’t order 6 packs of Liberte or Mineralite for $60 each!? ![]()
Love my Liberte glasses. ![]()
I have 5 of my 6 1855s still alive. If you’ve seen any of my prior posts about glasses, our new dish washer, and our cleaning lady and nanny, you’ll know that’s a tremendous feat. My GGG and Zaltos have all been destroyed. All user error, by the way. My 1855s are holding up very well due in large part to their shorter stem which allows easier dishwashing. Only break was cleaning lady dropping one in the sink.
After using the Zalto, Zalto Bordeaux (which I liked a lot), GGG, and Grassl 1855, I think I’ll stick with the 1855s as the main glass in my house. I’m going to snag some of the narrower bowl Grassl for champagne. Any suggestions on that front?

Liberté or Mineralité
the opening of the glass on the L is larger than the M.
To some, this is bothersome (bridge of nose can hit the other side on an M).
To others, it’s a non-issue and they take the trade for more focus on the aromatics willingly.
Put me in the camp favoring the Liberte.
It is currently my favorite Champagne glass.
I use the Mineralité for Champagne, again because of how it focuses the aromatics. My wife uses a Liberté, and we share the glasses. Always fun to compare.
OK, the 1855 Grassl glasses are still my favorite stems to use BUT, as much as I teased my husband about it earlier, I am now finding them super fragile and I’m trying to figure out … Is it just me? I don’t consider myself particularly Hulk-like, but I’ve snapped two stems in the last three months, just by hitting them lightly against something, and we’ve had two others just wholesale shatter with what seemed like very light accidental contact with another object. (e.g. Putting one away in the cabinet last night, bumped another glass on shelf with what seemed like a light clink and, boom, gone.)
We’ve broken more of these since January than I think we have broken other wine glasses in the last five years. Yes, we use them 5-6 times a week, but that still seems like a really high percentage to me. I’m fully on board with the idea that it’s not the glass, it’s me. But, other than just, ‘Be less clumsy, lady,’ any advice? Am I only one having this problem?
Posted with both apologies and gratitude to Chris for his breakage guarantee.
