Graeter's Ice Cream - in NJ!

Everyone is making me feel spoiled living here, where I can get both whenever I want. Not difficult in Cleveland, even easier when visiting my parents in Columbus. If I had to pick a desert island ice cream it would be Jeni’s black cherry/goat cheese but the Graeter’s chocolate chips can’t be beat.

First had Graeter’s in 1983 on a day trip to Cincinnati from Oxford, Ohio (grad student at Miami University). 16 years later, I see Bob Graeter posting on WCWN. My wife ordered me a six pack for my birthday that year when Bob told me they shipped.

I’ve since pulled corks with Bob about half a dozen times, but the last time was about 3-4 years ago. I know his wife had health issues, and maybe that has taken him away from the business.

Graeter’s became available here 2-3 years ago.

So, being intrigued by this thread, I used the store finder link and discovered that Safeway in this area now carries Graeter’s and I went on a quest to secure a pint of the Raspberry Chocolate Chip. Scoured the entire Ice Cream Aisle with no luck, and then at the last second checked the end cap and found a very small supply. But there was only one Raspberry pint left and it was smashed and had leaked. [swearing.gif]

So I grabbed a Chocolate Chocolate Chip and will report back later.

Any of the chip flavors–vanilla, mint, chocolate, coffee, toffee, black raspberry, and probably peanut butter and coconut (but I don’t like peanut butter or coconut anything)–are solid.
