Thank you Mike for your generosity. An enduring generous soul that has kept us doing this work for over 15 years.
Donation done. I have a secret source for ugly wine, so I have plenty of that. Do you have a preference for the good side of the ledger?
But, but…
I don’t. Whatever is good, what you want to stand out amongst the dogs, bring that.
One of these days, maybe I will be able to make it to your event, but it looks like this is not the one. I am in White Plains Hospital having just had a CAT scan waiting to be admitted because it appears that there is a minor perforation at a surgical scar in my digestive tract. Unless something shocking tomorrow, there is no way that I can travel to San Diego because I am, as they euphemistically say, NPO, Which means nothing goes into my mouth.
Jay, take good care of yourself with this one. I have had a family member receive a J-pouch (and 4 surgeries to complete it successfully) so I appreciate the nature of what is going on with you. All of my best to you, hang in there buddy.
Jay, sent you an email as well. Hope you get well soon my friend
Cheers
Take care if #1 pal, no pun intended, there will be other opportunities.
Good morning everyone. Hey we’re six days away from the event and very few of you have paid and my assumption is there’s more of you out there that will be coming this Saturday so can you please get me paid sooner than later so I can start to figure out how big the crowd is and draw up an order for the pizza and salad. Also having the attendance # will allow me to understand how much space I need to allocate in the house. Thanks again and if you need details about who to pay and how much you can find it in one of the previous posts further up the page. Thankfully the event is not today or yesterday as it would’ve been likely difficult to do it but next weekend is looking to be around 80° for the house here. Should be great.
The problem is that I have had NOTHING to eat or drink since 2:30 pm last Thursday, so #2 is out of the question.
Yikes. Yours is the best response to a misspelling on WB ever. Keep your spirits up, hoping your recovery goes well.
Hello everyone. Below is list of paid for the pizza and salad($15 per person, paid to me via Venmo). Of note/reminder, you do not have to provide me proof of your donation to Laura’s House. I’m going on the honor system for that part.
Have fun. You guys missed a 2002 Big Creek Vineyards Seyval Blanc that we bought at a tasting room years ago because we felt sorry for the winemaker who was pouring it because it was so bad.
Everyone. Last call for GBU food payments. I be doing the order for the pizza and salad tomorrow. If you plan to come Saturday send me your Venmo so I can put you in the food plan. Thank you. Murray out.
For tomorrow’s GBU event here at my place, if you are bringing white wine or Champagne, please bring it chilled. We’re not going to use any ice baths (because of the bag/bottle covers and the voting stickers getting wet/falling off) so the temp you bring it will be the temp it is served. We may do some ice packs but no water.
We’ll segregate the chilled wines from the reds so all the whites can go in one place. And given the temp of the wines, I’m suggesting to do the white/Champagne first, then we can do the reds but this is up to your preference, as you can vote/taste as you wish.
See you all tomorrow.
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. Here a few photos to share. Brian says we had about 80 bottles open, and it was a gas to do these blind, vote and then reveal. Not sure how much was raised for Laura’s House but if I find out, I will post the # here.
What wine won the prize for the worst of all?
I got a refund for all of my expenses - flight, conference and conference dinner - but as seems to be a tradition when I can’t come at the last minute, I donated money to Laura’s House and did not ask for a refund, so I was good for $108 (6*$18).
Hey Jay, thanks a lot. How are you doing today? You better?
Worst. We had a # of them and I admittedly didn’t put a lot of execution detail onto the event. When we pulled the bags off, I kind of focused on the most voted wines–good or bad–and didn’t ask for who supplied what bottles. I know for me there was a Stella Rosa red that was pretty ugly. Screw top, candied with a spritz. That was my worst.
Thank you again for trying to be here. I appreciate the effort, most of all for Laura’s House.
