GNs (Garagiste Notes): Raiano Fiano & Prieto Rueda

To accompany cream of roasted artichoke soup (I’m never sure this is worth the work but it’s always delicious) and a simple salad of our first good batch of arugula! Yay for warm weather!

  • 2007 Martina Prieto Verdejo Rueda - Spain, Castilla y León, Rueda (6/6/2009)
Gooseberry and a whiff of melon, some white flowers and herbacious notes, rainwater. A bit juicy and ripe but still with good acidic cut. I’ve had Ruedas with a bit more minerality but this is still a great and thoroughly enjoyable $17 bottle of summertime wine.
  • 2006 Villa Raiano Fiano di Avellino - Italy, Campania, Fiano di Avellino (6/6/2009)
Fat, sweet, ripe, flabby, somewhat dark in color, cloying. Honestly pretty gross. Perhaps a bit oxidized? Either way we poured it out and I was too busy cooking to go digging for my other bottle of it to check, so we moved to a much more enjoyable Rueda…
