I think the Hammelmann may have sold out.
@Robert_Dentice what Hammelmann do you prefer. Seems like he makes a few different ones?
I tasted through everything at the winery. Since then I have only had a few and all have been very good. Donât sleep on the higher end Rose it is really more a light red and fantastic.
Looks even more appealing that your great restaurant pictures!
Thank you! I will pass along your kind words to the Chef

I got my shipment from sneaker guy last week, and feel that anyone who loves Spätburgunder is doing themselves a disservice if you arenât signed up for their emails. They have really built a great portfolio at fair prices.
Could not agree more.
Not only does Lyle have the widest / deepest selection, his pricing is fantastic since he does not have to go through the three tiers.
And he just plain knows his shit when it comes to German wine.
Very light and red fruited. Slightly candided (carbonic?). There is a hint of something green and herbal, but it is very well balanced and just adds to the wine.
Not super complex or long. A no resistance wine you just want to drink cold during the summer.
I paid 16⏠for this from Germany. I cannot complain at that price. But i would probably pay a bit more for the Alte Reben next time which is a much more interesting wine.
Thanks for the note. I typically donât mind a little green in my Pinot.
I didnât make it clear. It was a positive for me
Tried the 2020 Dostert Pinot Noir last night at Noreetuh. It is listed as 12.5% abv on the label versus 11.5% for the 2019. It is definitely riper and has more structure. Not quite as light and ethereal as the 19 but still a very elegant and intoxicating wine. It was a big hit for all who tried it. I only mention this because it is a perfect example of why I am so excited about Spatburgunder in Germany and specifically in the Mosel.
Disclaimer - source | material sold a few cases of this, only because my partner would not let me keep it all.
The only known bottles are on the Noreetuh list and maybe Momofuku Ko.
@Robert_Dentice how is the oak regime in Hammelmanns wines?
I can see a CT note on the 2018 Roter Berg Spätburgunder that states that it is very oaky. Was that just early days or? Cannot imagine both you and Russell would enjoy overoaked Spätburgunder
Did not get any oak flavors on the 19. He is just starting so I could see some of the wines possibly showing more oak than he wants.
I do know it is very hard to get used Burgundy barrels in Germany.
Awesome. I sold a few bottles to fund a mixed 6-pack of Hammelmannâs red and rose (2019, 2020, 2021).
Excited to try them when i get them.
Awesome. I hope you dig them as much as me. And be thankful you are paying European prices.
I always am!
By the way, that Saalwächter has only become better with a ton of air. Really good basic Spätburgunder.
Speaking of wines from sneaker guy - I listened to a podcast recently in which @Robert_Dentice was talking about a wine from Josef Walter, which prompted me to open one of these. Really great stuff and Iâll be on the lookout for more.
2014 Josef Walter Hundsrßck Spätburgunder "J" - Germany, Franken (5/9/2023)
Sitting down with one of my best friends for an overdue, long, intimate conversation. We dreamed, grieved, laughed, sat in silence. Wonderful, simple food. This wine stood up to all that. Even more so, it called our attention to itself over and over the course of the meal. Not in a loud, brash way, but quietly and intensely. This is a remarkable bottle and one that is strengthening my resolve to seek out more Spätburgunder.
Related, re: Josef Walter: I opened the 2010 BĂźrgstadter Centgrafenberg FrĂźhburgunder âJâ a couple weeks back and it was drinking great. Not unlike a chambolle village. Delicate and quietly intense.
Had the 2015 a few times now. It is really really good as well
