Ganevat Sold / New Investor?

Imagine if ganevat buys it back for less than he originally sold it for.

Governments have ways to license sales of sanctioned assets (usually the proceeds remain sanctioned), but the details vary by country, and veer pretty far into the political.

This isn’t correct. Chelsea wasn’t in the process of being sold. The UK government is trying to figure out what to do with Chelsea, but it isn’t correct that they stopped a sale. It’s looking more and more likely that the UK government will permit a sale so long as the funds are put in some kind of escrow. Sanctions are ultimately sui generis, and governments have quite a bit of leeway in making exceptions.

I am sure you know more on that topic than me. Was just all over respectable danish media that an eventually sale was put in hold, after he publicly told that the club was for sale. But maybe i misunderstood it.

This certainly complicates the story a bit!
{Jeffrey Alpert on Instagram: "“On January 21st of this year after 10 years of working with VOS, we ended our partnership. It was a difficult decision that required careful thought and consideration, which we felt VOS deserved after so many years of partnership.   On February 11th we let our customers (wine store owners & buyers, beverage directors, and distributors in other states) know that effective that day the wines of Jean-Francois Ganevat, Vincent Giraudon, Chateau de Grand Pre, and Benoit Lahaye would be found alongside the other wonderful producers in our portfolio.   Given the timeline of these events, we are baffled to see the statement that VOS has issued about severing ties with Jean-Francois Ganevat but also the mention of Jeffrey Alpert Selections. What was a legitimate business decision on our part, has mutated into something we cannot comprehend. It treats the devastating crisis in the Ukraine as an opportunity to build an inaccurate and self-serving narrative on the part of VOS.   There are resources available on why Ganevat’s estate was sold, as well as information about the buyer. We recommend reading the articles written by Aaron Ayscough which discuss both topics in detail.” Continued in comments…"}

Wow, that’s crazy…

Most interesting, in the comments:

We have a two-decade long relationship with the Ganevat Family and spoke with Anne ourselves today who confirmed that ownership of the domaine has been moved back to the Ganevat’s in the last few days.”

They might have done that before the sanctions, but seems a bit unlikely.

There’s also the fact that the French government would probably look favorably on granting a license to sell back to the Ganevats. Proceeds no doubt frozen.

there are some really strange people in the world doing strange things for strange reasons.
