Brian Boitano? Are you freaking kidding me? Coq au van-guine? ![]()
Have to agree, they have become a complete joke of a network.
HOLY $hit - I was watching yesterday and this lame show called ‘What Would Brian Make’ or something like that came on…
He was making dinner for 20-some rollergirls. I think I barfed in my mouth before I could scramble to find the remote and change the channel.
One word: HORRIBLE
I do like Diners, Drive-In’s and Dives
If he sang this at the opening and closing of every episode it might be okay . . .

Well, the fact that they have to tell you that one of their shows involves actual (alleged) cooking by promos that say “Food Network–In the Kitchen” should be another clue as well. How about a promo for “Food Network–In the Crapper?”
There are some shows that are worthwhile there, but they have a LOT of airtime to fill and apparently a limited pool of talent. You can only tolerate so much Sandra Lee and Paula Deen and Ms. R. Ray. Which is to say, not much at all…

There are still a few shows I enjoy…have to admit I enjoy Alton Brown, Iron Chief and even Bobby Flay’s Throwdown. I can’t even look at Sandra Dean or Racheal Ray. As far as a few of the others, I still like Tyler Florence, Ask Aida and small doses of Guy Fieri and Ace of cakes…
Cheers!

I liked the Jamie Oliver shows when they had them.
I like the PLACES that Guy Fieri goes but he’s seriously got to come up with something to say besides “Wow! That’s a lot of flavor!”
Everything that he tastes is so money.
That is actually a very good point…
Cheers!

Its gotten really bad. What was once a fun, educational and entertaining network has now reached the lowest common denominator of the great, ‘unwashed masses.’
There have been times I’ve watched Paula Dean with the sound down (doing cardio at the gym). Have you seen how she puts her finger in the food, then licks it, then handles more food as she cooks? Disgusting.
I know it is not FoodNetwork, but I like to watch Andrew Zimmer. I really like it when he eats something that even he does not like. Not many things, but he will let it be know it is bad.
It would be fun to see some of the Food Network people do the same.
Doesn’t watching Paula Dean making those cheese/butter/fat/lard laden dishes undo all the hard work at the gym? [g]

If you are looking for elegant and complex dishes, don’t watch his show for good recommendations. He seems to think that hot sauce belongs on everything…

Not sure if folks know Rodney Muirhead who used to post on eBob. A great chef who happened to cook a couple of end of year dinners for our tasting group in Seattle back in 2003 and 2004. Guy Fieri visited him at Podnah’s Pit BBQ. Awesome to see a purist at work, especialyl when you know who he is and know that he has serious chops.
Exactly. I love the idea of the show, but he’s unbearable. I’ve watched the show on ‘mute’ a couple of times, which helps.
I’ve been waiting to accidentally catch a re-run of that show since I was too lazy to research the original air time. Rodney is truly a pit master. And he now has a new one, three times the size of the old.
FWIW, Rodney can do a heck of a lot more than work a pit. I am yet to have his BBQ, but his straight up chef work for a wine dinner was outstanding. I can only imagine what a great pitmaster he is. It also doesn’t hurt that he is married to a great Chocolatier who can make a mean dessert as well.

I can WATCH Sandra Lee - I just need to turn the sound off and pay no attention to what she is doing.
I hate Guy Fieri. It’s gotten to the point that I bitch slap anyone I see who wears sunglasses on the back of his head.
I do like Alton, but can’t watch a full episode of Iron Chef - too contrived (every chef knows his/her secret ingredient well before they show up) and way too overproduced
