I pegged this as 2Hawk as well. All the clues fit. I have 2 other 2Hawks wines, and 1 that I opened, a Malbec, was solid. I don’t think it was ever a $50 wine, but $15 is easy if you have room. I have NO room.
Redacted 74 is most likely 2017 W.T. Vintners ‘Grand Cote’ Syrah. Owen Bargreen gave it a 93.
Agreed. The Bargreen review includes the text in the third and fourth quote excerpts in the offer. This wine was offered in BerserkerDay last January, where they referenced a 93 pt review from W&S. That review includes the text from the first and second quote excerpts in the offer. And Grand Cote was planted at the original request of Doug McCrea, per info on the WT Vintners web site (and there’s a reference to McCrea in the FP offer email).
Boushey is a master at growing great Syrah. Finding a vineyard designate at under $30 has become a unicorn hunt (I think the Ross Andrew releases were the last ones to get over that threshold, but that’s been a number of years ago). At a $20 price point, that’s amazing!

I was unfamiliar with WT prior to the redacted series, now I’ll have a couple cases, all at $15-20, assuming I get allocated 5-6 for this one. I asked for 7. Odd number but will “fill a case” with FP.
I toured Boushey vineyards a long time ago, and Grand Cote blocks were/are kind of in what I’d call a holler (I’m from Tennessee). A steep ravine where planting anything seems difficult. I am guessing Doug and Dick discussed it being like somewhere in Cote Rotie. It’s interesting that “Boushey Vineyard” is really 5-6, maybe more, non-contiguous vineyards in about a 1-2 mile radius of Dick Boushey’s home north of Grandview. This Grand Cote block had been used by McCrea, Maison Bleue (Liberte), and Avennia in the era when I visited 2010 or so.
I posted previously on Charles Ellner being offered today. Price is a little higher now at $30 but I think well worth it if you are looking for a legit Champagne experience at a bargain price. My previous comments, above:
Different NV Charles Ellner from the Redacted 34. This current Carte Blanche one has higher CT scores, so perhaps the $5 bump is warranted.
Chris, I’ve been buying WT regularly for quite a while now. I have wines in the cellar back to the 2011 vintage. At $15-$20/bottle these are fantastic bargains.
Redacted 76
Sleight of Hand Cellars
2020 Psychedelic Syrah
Walla Walla AVA, Washington Drinking Window: 2024-2030
A beguiling bouquet of smoky bacon, olives, crushed blackberries and dried flowers makes the 2020 Syrah Psychedelic a total pleasure on the nose. This is savory, nearly salty in character, with dried meat and earth tones giving way to only a hint of black currant. It leaves the palate with only a subtle coating of tannin, as wild herbs and saline-mineral tones linger impossibly long. The Psychedelic is the racy and sleek entry from the “From those that like the rocks” collection.
Nice work @Scott_G_r_u_n_e_r .
I just got allocated 3 (out of 7 requested) on the WT Boushey Syrah. I’d expect this one to get shorted as well. Asked for 6, expect 3 max.
On the WT Boushey Syrah, I ordered 3, was allocated 2…
Michael
In for 6…very good wine!
Really, these Redacted wines all seem to be no-brainers. At the price discounts even if one or two is a miss, it is still an excellent value proposition.
I may have already said this here, but I talked with Paul Z about the redacted concept a few months ago. He said the wineries involved are grateful for the “anonymous” outlet, and really don’t care that the forum geeks figure it out. They just need to move the wine.
Today’s guess for Redacted 76 is spot on; Sleight of Hand Cellars 2020 Psychedelic Syrah as I just received an email as a Sleight of Hand Wine Club member offering the same wine for $37.
I saw Trey post this on facebook, then later update with a “SOLD OUT”. Full Pull allocations are gonna be slim.
Guessing a certain amount was guaranteed to fullpull, but how much is interesting… offering up to 24 seems to imply a good chunk
Yeah, I find the whole thing a bit odd. Club discount clearances happen all the time but obviously FP and SoH have a good relationship. I can’t imagine this wine was ever produced in more than a few hundred cases max to start with, and the counts in CT are in the 300-400 bottle range. The 2020 is already listed at 300 in CT.
Answering my own question from Sleight of Hand spec sheet… “One vineyard. 9 puncheons. 500 cases.”
Scarcity.
To be honest, these Full Pull offerings have me questioning my membership in certain producers’ email lists. Although I wish for nothing but great success for wine makers, particularly the ones whose wines I really like, and I have an idea of and appreciation for just how difficult it is to be in the business, I can’t help but be a little bothered by wines I paid club member prices showing up at big discount at FP.
Despite that I’ll probably stick with my “Rocks” Sleight of Hand membership for the foreseeable future since I like what they do and have a fair bit of fondness for them. That membership gets me two other cuvees besides the Psychedelic, the Funkadelic (my favorite SOH usually) which is made in small quantities and not usually available on re-order and the Spiders from Mars at the best price.
SoH’s SoDo tasting room is in the same building as Full Pull, along with Rotie, Latta, Patterson and a few others. The relationship makes sense…
Does anyone have any experience with Tulpen cellars from today’s offer? Intriguing write up and can’t seem to find much on them.
