I have 2 bottles of Hirsch 16 year old reserve, distilled in 1974 (gold foil), 2 bottles of Pappy van Winkle’s 20 year old, and one bottle of Pappy van Winkle’s 15 year old.
The 15 year old Pappy’s was bottled in 2011, if I am reading the bottle code correctly. I do not see codes on either of the 20s, but I think that I ourchased them before 2011, so should be S-W, IIRC.
I have no idea what to ask for these. Lowest price I found a price on wine-searcher was $1,199 for the Hirsch at K & L.
The Pappy’s 20 range from $950 up, and the 15 is $850 and up on wine-searcher.
Make me a reasonable offer.
Buyer pays for, and assumes all risks of shipping.
Wow.
I bought a couple of cases each of 16 & 20 y.o. Hirsch back in the late 90s. I think I paid about $60/per on the 16 y.o. and about $80/per on the 20 y.o. Even more frustrating, when I bought those cases, I could have had several more cases of each at the same price. Arrrgh!
$1,500 for the 5 bottles.
Peter,
I have a better offer, $1,900. I am still trying to figure out what is a fair price.
Jeff
Here’s 2 references for the Hirsch (with my Google Knowledge).
Some auction site where there’s a bottle for sale, bidding is up to $500. No idea what the commission charged is.

and 2 lots sold in April at a Bonhams Whiskey auction. Average of $650 per bottle pre fees, so probably $525 after fees.

My guess, you should be looking for $400-$500 for the 2 bottles of Hirsch in a private transaction. The Pappy is a little trickier as it comes out at $120 per bottle (the 20yo) for people on the ‘list’, and I have little feel for the secondary market (I’ve only bought ‘primary’ at the $100 or $120). The same Bonhams auction had a bottle of the 20 sell for $650 (about $520 after fees), but only 1 bottle in the auction. I’m guessing maybe the same thing, $400-$500 for the Pappy 20. So if you could get someone to pay $2,000-$2,100 for the ‘package’ of the 5 bottles, both sides are probably happy?
BTW, if you want to break the package up, I’ll pay $950 + shipping for the 2 bottles of Hirsch? You may be able to find guys willing to pay more for the Pappy given it’s popularity these days
All those Pappy lovers out there, maybe we can put together a package for Jeff. I take the Hirsch for $950 and ‘you’ take the 3 bottles of Pappy for $1250. Total package for Jeff of $2,200. Where did all those Pappy fans go??
I’ve exchanged PMs with Jeff and I don’t think $2,200 is going to do it
Such is life. Back to my Hirsch 28yo (not the same ‘Hirsch’, but good juice none the less. love that stuff).
