2010 Azienda Agricola San Giuseppe Rosso di Montalcino Stella di Campalto - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino (6/20/2014)
Translucent ruby in the glass; nice legs, with a mentholated cherry aroma.
Still very primary on the palate, with sour cherry fruit and more of a tannic kick than you might normally expect from a Rosso. This was just popped & poured, but clearly demands some food, so I’ll come back once I’ve had the chance to pair this up with some pizza.

2012 Montalbera Grignolino d’Asti - Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Grignolino d’Asti (6/20/2014)
Light translucent ruby; almost like a rose’. Nice minerally nose with red fruits.
Light-bodied, nice tension on the palate, crisp acidity - really not bad given the under $20 price point. Short on the finish, and not overly complex, but still, not bad at all.

2012 Montalbera Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato L’Accento - Italy, Piedmont, Monferrato, Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato (6/20/2014)
Popped & poured; dark translucent ruby in the glass, with a nose on opening that hints of ripe cherry fruit but is otherwise reticent.
Different - kind of “four square” on the palate - the nose would seemingly indicate a typical young Piemontese red, but on the palate the wine is somewhat “chunky”, almost full-bodied, with a bitter note on the finish.
I’ll come back to this later tonight, as I’ve seen some notes talk about the wine coming around after it’s been opened a while, but right now this is so-so.
